So I have just purchased a new private number plate. What is the fastest way I could put this plate onto my car?

Could anyone please explain the fastest process?

Nope. They are all owned by the state.

I don't believe they do charge for putting plates on anymore. They only charge for transferring/retaining the plates now.

ETA: OP, get the plates made up (you'll need the certificate that proves you're entitled to use that registration) then between 7am and 7pm you can use the governments online service to put the new registration on (as soon as you do this, the old V5 reference will be invalid as a new one will be issued). Once you've done that online, you can then put the plates you've made up onto the vehicle.

Much easier than it used to be tbh.

Oh yeah and your insurance. Some will charge an admin fee, some won't. I think the road tax was automatic but would be worth checking to be sure (was a year ago nearly since I last transferred mine).

Well road tax was automatic earlier this year which makes sense and prepare to pay an admin fee to get the insurance details updated .

Good point. Presumably the retention fee has already been paid.

Just replaced my car, no charge from LV to swap car (newer version of same model, similar price, gone from diesel to petrol, same power output), nor was there a charge to swap over to the personal plate a few days later :j
