I think I've understood it. And there's three companies according to my friend's husband (I emailed him and asked!) - that's larger ones, because there are smaller specialist companies. But I'd disagree that the company are employing "unqualified" people instead of "qualified" people. Take a look at post #16, and that's the issue. OP, someone who hasn't got a degree would have to be very good to "talk themselves up" to being a capable engineer with the required experience! A qualification is not everything - there are people out there who have come up through experience. I think you might consider reevaluating your attitude here. That is very possibly the problem that your employer sees. You think having a degree makes you more qualified than someone who doesn't have one - that isn't necessarily true. And you think that you can't get a job because your employer is practising equal opportunities, which really doesn't sound at all likely. If your attitudes displayed here are reflected in the workplace, that might be what is stopping you getting ahead. experience doesn't originate in a classroom - having a degree is not all that matters.0 -

Seems some people on here rather than offer advice just tell you your wrong, the company is perfect its just you being an idiot depite having zero knowledge or experience of the company or situation. You need to actually read my posts. Im that much of an idiot that I successfully run an SME outside of working full time

Do you think you're better than the non graduates? There are two aerospace engineers in my family (main employer in my town), and both worked their way up from apprenticeships. Few of the older engineers will have degrees, they qualified for promotion by experience, and the industry is heading back in that direction (although it is now possible for apprentices to get a degree through their employment).0 -

Oh, I understood it from the first post, don't worry. My post was outlining what he claims the situation to be. My personal appraisal of what the situation actually is is something else again.0 -
I don't have experience in your sector but I do have experience of being in a job I hate! I was so close to walking out even with nowhere to go! It took me 7 months to secure a new job. So many a applications I lost count and 8 interviews before I was offered something. I found it much harder to find something than previously. Try to keep positive. Things will change. Remember work is just one part of your life.
My only advice is have a think about what you really want. Find a job you like, read the job description then see what gaps you need to fill to get there. Do some study in your spare time to beef up your CV.
Interview processes can definitely be unfair. However maybe its good not to be selected by a company that's biased or discriminates?0 -
