  • The Farmfoods I go to is next to a Netto and is often cheaper. I get all my frozen veg there, some frozen fruit,Birds Eye Simply Fish and Simply
chicken. Best of all are the Poppets-mint,raisinor toffe, 5 packs for a pound which are a great treat in a lunchbox.

OK... I went shopping there today. I bought one of the £5 meat packs, but haven't eaten any of it, yet. I also bought some chicken nuggets and fish fingers for £1.50 apiece, because my toddler likes them once in a while. (No, I don't feed them a steady diet of crap, but a couple of times a month.) The price of frozen veg was incredible... big bags of the stuff (I got one of spinach and one of leeks) for 69p. Their eggs were a good price at 10 for £1. (However, I intend to buy eggs from the community farm when their hens are laying.)

I didn't need bread or milk, but the prices looked pretty good. I also saw that their lunch meat was well-priced... two for £2, I think it was. My husband has a cold cut sandwich every day for lunch and I think I'll be buying the meat at Farmfoods from now on.

Their butter and yogurt were not competitively priced. I'll continue to get those at Asda.

There were an awful lot of frozen ready meals, which is not surprising. I don't go in for those very often. Once in a while, when I'm just not up to cooking/not at home, my husband likes having them to heat up.

The best deal I saw was Coca Cola: 2 six packs for £2.50... just under 21 pence per can! I have a sick Coke addiction, but only allow myself to have it when the price is below 25p per can.

Oh, one other thing I forgot...

They have a pretty decent savings stamp scheme. You fill a card with 24 stamps (£1) and they'll credit you £25... which is just over 4%. That's not bad if you happen to want to buy £25 worth of stuff in one go (I spent £14 today, so this would be a major freezer-stocking expidition, I guess.) Unlike Tesco, it's not limited to the month of December (those who try to maximize the return on the Tesco scheme may find that there are no stamps in the machines in November. Ugh.) Anyway, before somebody points out that 4.1% isn't as good as this or that savings account: this is tax-free and you can turn it around instantly, so the ANNUAL rate can be much, much higher, if you know what I mean. That is, assuming you want to buy vast amounts of frozen food. Heh.

I think I'll load up a card over the next couple of visits so that I can fill my freezer, anyway.

Was in Farmfoods in Southend at the weekend and they had some 'Tastes of the World' boxes of Thai curry containing 1 dish of red curry,1 dish of green curry,1 dish of Prawn Pad noodles with separate Cashew nuts and 1 dish of Aromatic jasmine rice, all for £1.95.Although its says for 'two' on the box it was enough for 4 of us.Not bad for 50p a meal.
  • I used to shop at Farmfoods all the time, but spend £15 twice a week there and spend £30 at the supermarket. Now I buy everything at Morrisons and only spend the same £30. I don't go twice a week and I don't have an extra trip to Farmfoods.

I don't actually buy a lot from Farmfoods, but the lamb at £5.95 (cheaper than anywhere else) and the beef at just £4.95 is definitely worth buying. I've been buying these for months now and never had a problem. I usually buy the multi-purpose roasting bags from Wiko to cook the meat in (10 for 99p), the meat is so tender you'll never want to eat anything else. I don't rate the pork chops though.
