Farmfoods?

Options
I just moved to a town that has one of these shops... I'd never seen one, before. I went in to look yesterday and was SHOCKED by the prices! Wow!

I'm thinking they can keep their meat prices so low because it's cheaper to ship, store, and sell frozen stuff than fresh. Is the quality OK? It's not like I buy organic free-range chicken, anyway. I was just curious about the "Five-Day Meat" packs for £5. Anyone tried them? Is the quality OK?

What else is a good deal at Farmfoods?

(A couple of years ago, I bought a gigantic pack of pork chops at iceland because the price was so good. It wasn't until I took them out to thaw them that I realized that 15 frozen pork chops for two adults isn't exactly a good thing. :o I couldn't separate them until they were thawed, and we were only willing to eat so many pork chops in a short time! I ended up sharing them with the neighbors.)

    Hiya,

I haven't tried the meat packs but, yes, the prices are good. I can get three packets of sharwoods noodles for £1. I suppose the only thing you can do is try them and see what you think?

I like their frozen veg and the fruit is great for quick puddings and tarts.

Generally anything I have had has been very good. Also, I think their potato scones deserve a mention - they are delicious and they must have some self-raising flour added as they seem a wee bit cakey, too.

  • We have a farm foods near us too and i pop in at least once a week!
Tight sod that i am, i usually buy alot from the 'reduced' 35p and 60p freezers.
I also love the fact that they stock alot of scottish brands, including bread tattie scones and pancakes.
I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)

How's the price on non-frozen items like bread and milk? I ask because I was living out in the Highlands for a year and I'm still not sure what fair prices are for an urban area. We either drove over an hour to one of the Big Four, or we paid whatever Co-op wanted to charge us!

  • The price on non frozen foods is pretty good too, they always have offers on where if you buy two it works out alot cheaper, and is always fresher than my local tesco for some reason.

I really can't agree enough with heavenleigh's comment about how the bread is fresher. It also seems to last longer, or am I imagining it?

earwig, thanks for the recommendation, I'll need to try that the next time I'm in :)

We had a leg of lamb from there which was really tender and the whole leg was only about a fiver i think. Would certainly buy again. Havent tried any of the other meat.
