E2Save (CPW) 3 Months Free Insurance, BEWARE

I ordered a new phone from e2save in May which included 3 months free insurance. Great I thought I'll just cancel the insurance before the 3 months is up.

Here's where they get tricky. Rather than bill you for the next insurance period, which is actually 3 months rather than a month on month basis, when the free 3 months runs out. They charge you for the next three months after only one month.

So I have free insurance that runs until 13 Aug but they are going to charge me on the 13 Jun for insurance that is effective from August until December.

The letter actually came from CPW and is with Lifeline insurance. The information about when they are going to charge me is under the "For Carphone Warehouse office use only" text under the direct debit information. So at first glance you wouldn't notice it.

Very sharp practice indeed and not honest.

Just cancel the DD and they won't be able to take any more from you.

I plan to anyway. It's more a word of caution for others, in case you think you have 3 months in order to worry about cancelling the DD. Do it straight away as they'll take the money after only 4 weeks.

i recently bought a contract phone with e2save and took the three months free insurance. however it didn't say anything in the terms about it automatically continuing after the free period?

also there is only H3G in my direct debits, all the rest are accountable.

Watch out chompie! it may not be there at present but may well appear when they apply to collect it - in my case ON the day they took the money.

When trying to cancel the DD for the insurance I had a problem with my bank who could not find any DD request from CPW for the insurance premium so could not cancel it in advance of it being requested.

I went into the bank several times the week before I thought it was due to be collected and whilst they were very helpful but could not do anything until CPW asked for it. CPW did not present the request until the ACTUAL day they wanted to take the money - fortunately I saw it appear as a debit on-line and went to the bank that morning - then they were able to cancel it.

It was extremely lucky that I was able to get to the bank immediately as it meant that they were able to reverse the debit on the account which I could not have done on-line. My contract date started on the 10th of the month and this happened on the 9th three months later.

    Hope this helps

    Good luck
