A1 Travel Ceased Trading

Options
We had a holiday booked for the end of November with A1 Travel, who ceased trading on 20 October 2017. Our Ryanair flights are fine, as those were paid for separately, but as regards the hotel reservation, the only info I have been able to find is that if you have accommodation booked through A1 Travel, the booking is now being looked after by a company called Broadway Travel, and we should receive some paperwork in the next week or so.

This holiday was booked as a result of our Monarch package being cancelled for obvious reasons, so our confidence with any sort of booking is at a low, to say the least.

My question is, do we have to go with the booking being taken over by Broadway Travel (who are also ABTA/ATOL registered), or can we decline, and say that we will make our own arrangements as regards accommodation? I am just dreading turning up at our destination and being told there is no reservation at the apartments in our names :(

Any advice would be great.

Sorry, don't have any great advice but would suggest that as Broadway Travel is ABTA bonded you should be fine.

At the moment they will be up to their eyes in paperwork and dealing with the immediate problems- such as folk already in resorts etc.
You could contact them directly and ask if you can have a straight forward refund from ABTA but I'm not sure that that is how things work. Of course if you are being provided with something that is not like for like (or similar) then I guess you would be able to refuse and ask for refund.

Earlier this year I had a cruise cancelled because the cruise line went bust and eventually got ABTA paperwork and then claim settled but in that instance no other cruise line took over.

As far as the customer is concerned nothing has changed. You will still have the accommodation A1 booked via their supplier, only now Broadway are the agent not A1. If you want to cancel your accommodation booking that's fine but it would be subject to cancellation charges in the usual way because your contract is still confirmed with the same company.

If you paid by credit card go back to them. Debit card do a chargeback. Google the monarch one - it's a similar thing

If you follow this link from the ABTA website and complete the form, ABTA will send you a confirmation letter which you can forward to your bank to initiate the charge back.
