You're right, but given their position, they shouldn't be arbitrarily banning people without evidence.

My bank wouldn't reject an application because my name is similar to someone else's. The passport office wouldn't mistake me for my brother.

It's eBay, their rules, their site. They can ban who they like for whatever they like.

The bank and post office scenarios are not even vaguely similar.

You can be proactive with eBay but it doesn't mean they will listen.

ebay have chosen not to do business with you. Just like you are free not to do business with them.

In your OP you state this:
Once I did this, they then contacted my last week, telling me that they've linked my account to brothers based on similar bank information, contact information and seller activity.

In other words its the same name / email address, address or the payments are going into the same bank account. Any of these on their own would be more than enough for ebay to link you to a delinquent account and ban you. Or its the same surname and address. Either way its pretty compelling evidence on probability. Ebay are huge. Probability of a link is more than eough for them and they wont budge on this.
  • IP address could also be the link.

I really feel for you as this seems so unfair.

However, as others have said, it is unlikely that eBay will budge.

If you no longer share an address with your brother, try setting up a new account using a middle name and your current address.

Make sure to open a new bank account at a different bank to the one you used for the locked account.

I really don't believe people have so many issues with eBay. I have held 2 eBay accounts (1 personal and 1 business) for over 10 years without any issues.

May be it is because they are linked to different banks and names.

Its not the fact that its 2 accounts its the fact that one account was banned or they often owe ebay or paypal money and then another account gets created with the same surname and same address and possible other matching data.

    That is what gets flagged.

If you believe you can fool eBay with simple stealth you at least need to consider IP address, computer/mac id, phone number....the list goes on.

The issue isn't how many accounts - we have nearly 10 - it is how they are run and who has access. You don't need to link them to different names, all of ours go to the same business.
  • we have nearly 10 {accounts}
Do you find this helps? I was under the impression eBay simply limits the sales from linked accounts so they are the equivalent to similar level sellers with one account?

Hard one to answer. It used to benefit us greatly. However now we do it for ease - different brands under a different umbrella. Although with the hike in shop fees I have been considering streamlining it all down. Not all are used for selling, two at least are private accounts and one purely for buying.

If you are at the limit for a particular shop subscription it makes sense sometimes to simply open a new shop (different products) rather than pay for listings.
