Lidl and consumer rights

I bought an electrical item from Lidl a few weeks ago. It worked first time I used it but now doesn't. When I took it back the assistant insisted she could do nothing without a receipt.
I've lost the receipt. The item is only available through Lidl, so I couldn't have got it anywhere else. Do I have the right to insist on a replacement (which they probably don't have any more) or a refund?

Do you have any other proof of payment ie debit or credit card .without that you have no rights at all.
You may not be able to get it anywhere else but you could also be a shoplifter...no offence...make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Did you pay by card, if so you could show them your statement. I did this with a faulty hoover in Argos as I had lost the receipt.Dwy galon, un dyhead,

Well I realise I could be a shoplifter, but if I were (and I'm not) Lidl have already suffered the loss ... So they lose no more by sorting out my non working item.
I probably paid by card but almost certainly bought other stuff too.0 -

Well the would they would be two items down, the one you broke and the new one they gave you0 -
Go see the manager, see if he will help.

They were all of 49pmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

That still doesn't mean you were the one who purchased it and therefore party to the contract. You ask about consumer rights, well it's up to you to prove that you were indeed the consumer.I bought an electrical item from Lidl a few weeks ago. It worked first time I used it but now doesn't. I had one of those twin packs of salami, used one and a week later noticed the remaining pack was going mouldy, although well inside use by date. Lidl manager authorised replacement twin pack.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

I've found the payment on my credit card statement, but as I suspected I bought more stuff, so the debit is for a sum about £4 more than the item in question.
I assume from the responses that despite having no positive evidence, you all think Lidl are entitled to think I nicked it - and I think most of you think I did too, which is more than a bit upsetting. So I'm on a hiding to nothing even though the item is faulty?0
