Tesco Mobile says the Samsung warranty covers only software issues

Thanks d123. Here is an update - I got a call from Tesco's complaints team member and was offered a 50% discount for the LCD replacement and this is as far as they could go. I declined as I strongly believe there was no my wrongdoing here and it is a manufacturer's fault. I asked to send the phone back to me and was advised to contact Samsung directly to conduct a product liability assessment. I will update the thread when I do that.0

Bad decision. If you want to keep the phone that was an extremely generous offer.0 -
Good decision. I contacted Samsung and they will repair the phone out of charge. The courier is picking up the handset tomorrow.0

Don’t count those chickens until the phone has actually been checked by a technician at the service centre.
That is, unless they’ve agreed to some sort of goodwill repair?====0 -
...And take lots of picture of it before you pack it. There are many tales on here of phones being sent off and arriving with broken screens which you'll get the blame for if you can't prove it wasn't broken before it left you. . .0
