Sorry can't be of help with a hotel, sis and bro-in-law have a flat there for BIL's work, so we are lucky to be able to save hotel costs and stay there.
I think Glasgow used to be a bit grim (as markymoo says) but it has been nicely rejuvenated in recent years. I had pleasant surprise when I first went.

Glasgow i used Jurys hotel in the west end near the hospital, cheap & handy for town.
