Samsung 3 mini text problems

Here's hoping someone can help as I'm getting an ear bashing atm!
Mum has a Samsung 3 mini payg & for the last couple of months has been having issue when sending texts. Visits to the EE store have rectified the situation but it's usually because they've taken the battery out & restarted it.....prior to this mum was having to turn the phone off for about 10 minutes before a text would send.
Unfortunately it's got to the point where even that doesn't work now but the weird thing is she can receive texts whilst make & receive calls, so I don't think it's the sim.
Can anyone suggest what the problem is & a remedy?
I don't know if this is connected but she doesn't have data or wifi switched on.
Finally if the phone is terminal, could I have recommendations for a phone suitable for a 70 yr old? As I said she's on payg & although she's with orange/EE she'd consider moving.
Thanks

Data on would only be needed if she was actually sending MMS rather than SMS, this could be caused by very long texts or sometimes using emoticons (phone dependant I think).
Try a different text app maybe? I use Textra which is very good.0 -
If she never uses data or WiFi she has no need for a smartphone, let her discard the worn out S3 and get a simple reliable Nokia, new or refurbished, for texts and calls. I don't recall the best model numbers but they are not hard to find.Evolution, not revolution0

eDicky - I totally agree re the phone & I've told her that lol.
Colin - she doesn't send pictures & can't send texts of any length lol. The bit that's really weird is that she can receive texts.0 -
Have you witnessed this? what error messages is she getting?0

Just thought I'd update this thread as the problem has now been solved.
We tried the sim in an old orange phone we found but had the same issue....checked the messenger centre number & it agreed with one I'd found on the internet.
Finally got fed up so rang orange/EE to see if they could shed any light, told them what the problem was & what we'd checked & apparently the number was missing a digit.
So problem has been solved & mum is a happy bunny as she can now send texts again !0
