I did a two day course to learn to service my own engine. Very thorough and much easier than I thought it would be!

JackieO sorry to hear that your DD's FiL is so poorly; whatever happens, i hope he isn't in pain. x
Coxy you have my sympathy, my XH expected me to do absolutely everything (though granted we didn't have children) and it was Way Too Much. Could you maybe put it to other members of the family that they need to learn how to (for instance) operate the WM and other chores so that they could cope if ever you were too ill to do anything? Just a thought.
I am so lucky; Mr LW does whatever is asked of him without complaint. Ok not always to my exacting standards, but if I'm feeling poorly, I'm just grateful that it's done at all. :AIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

RedRuby :j to your new laundry storage, Personally I wish mine would disappear through the back into Narnia. I so hate the ironing and it would give me an excuse never to do any, ever again :rotfl:.
LaineyT enjoy your cake this afternoon.
.
Nanny, I never iron anything !! I chucked my ironing board up the garden one Saturday years ago after I had spent the whole day cleaning and ironing, I only recently bought another one because DD has to be smart for work, she irons all her own stuff though I don't get involved
Coxy its not your job to do everything sit your family down and tell them you are exhausted and share the jobs out, we don't do a lot of cleaning during the week but on a Saturday morning we all muck in and get the whole house done, I mainly cook during the week because I am in first but OH will if I cant be bothered, he washes up though.
Everyone does their own washing ( I will occasionally put dd's in) I never clean her bedroom its her mess let her live in it ! and the bathroom gets a quick swipe over after use but a good clean on Saturday.
Get your kids doing their own washing and Ironing, and work out a rota for cooking, its not your job alone xx
Jackie all the best to your DD's fil xx0 -
Just hugs to anyone who needs them, in unlimited amounts, life is sometimes difficult and tedious for everyone but we're here day in, day out to just hold out a hand and lend an ear because sharing helps and understanding and caring make it a less 'grey' world until things improve. Even if we don't post regularly we read every day and share the ups and downs and smile at the silly things, certainly I do so to all those of us who are sad and suffering I wish sunshine and peace in limitless measure and a restoration of tranquillity and happiness as quickly as it can be achieved xxx.0

My problems are really trivial compared to hers.
Coxy Nobody's problems are any more important than anyone elses. If something is upsetting you then it's a valid problem. A heads up for your sister and family though - if she had any flashbacks when your nephew died, they may reappear around the anniversary.
Doing everything in the house might have been ok when you had a part time job close to home but times have changed and the rest of the family need to adapt too. When the late MrC was alive we shared stuff out as much as we could given that he worked away for 16 weeks out of every 28. When he was home he did whatever housework I told him needed doing while I was at work, we took turns to cook, he was quite happy to do the shopping as long as he had a list and he could operate the washing machine most of the time. I say most of the time as a couple of times the soap liquid was still sat in it's little ball on the side after the washing was hung out to dry (he could do that too), but ....... The ironing was always my job because he hated it. Tell the rest of the family it's time to pull their weight and give you a hand.
JackieO Thinking of your family. Worrying times.....
I was generously provided with two sterile dressing kits by the hospital on Thursday and allowed to do my own dressings over the weekend. It's been so lovely not to have to make the trip to hospital and then sit and wait. I also had a bath yesterday before my dressing change thinking that I could change it straight after so getting it wet wouldn't matter. I have discovered to my absolute joy that the current dressing choice is waterproof. Totally and completely waterproof, so I can go back to having a bath every day (as opposed to a shower with my leg wrapped in cling film). Not only that but the current treatment plan is finally working. Very slowly but it's working. My leg still looks like something you usually see painted on for Halloween and I'm fairly sure it will scar, but I'm just happy to be going in the right direction at last. I've had an easy day today so I'm thinking tomorrow may be christmas cake baking day maybe.0 -
Afternoon all,
Ruby.....thanks for asking about me, have been off line for past week, problem with my charging port for tablet, think its now fixed, at least it seems to be charging.....we will see.
Ophelia left us relatively unharmed, a few slates off the house and one of the sheds, the Southwest was worst hit and unfortunately 3 people died, all tree related instances. Schools were closed country wide for 2 days, to be sure that there were no issues in buildings etc. Brian was just high winds and lots of heavy rain, today is calm, not very cold but rather dark for time of day.
JackieO sorry to hear of DDs FILs illness, thinking of them.
Coxy.....was going to suggest the type of strike tru went on, it seemed to work for her, there is no way that everything should be on your shoulders.
Not sure what we are having for dinner, usually DD1 cooks on Sunday, so am waiting to see what happens.
Best wishes to all, stay safe and warm.

Cranky has someone finally recognised that you are well able to redress your leg?! Does beg the question of whether the right (waterproof) dressings that stayed on would have been a better option from the off...2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

The nurses in the hospital don't like you to do it at home because they provide a sterile environment when they're doing the dressing. I think they could see by the look on my face that after 5 weeks of it I needed a break and very kindly treated me to two of their sterile dressing kits.
The dressing that I have now isn't supposed to work for what I have. For three and a half weeks they followed correct protocol until a community nurse on secondment said "no, if you do this it will work" and told the to use something else. The nurse treating me queried it, but y'man from community assured her this would work.....and bizarrely it does. I've even read on the internet - the manufacturers of the dressing say it's not for necrotic wounds but it is the only thing that has started to lift the dead tissue. This means it's not really the fault of the nurses that were treating me, but one of my mates (who in a past life was head of intensive care) has helped me by giving me the confidence to state that I want the dressing to remain the same now as opposed to different nurses trying their version of what they thought was right. I also now see the chap from community and the same other nurse on a regular basis because I just ask when they're next on and show up when they're on duty. If I have to see anyone else in between I just say "nurse A and nurse B say I have to have this". It's been a very long 5 weeks.....0 -
MARIE relieved to hear you are all ok. We were all worried when Ophelia struck and we heard nothing from you after the first couple of days.
COXY, oh COXY you sound at rock bottom and really must tell your family how you are feeling and stress on them ALL that you need some help with the jobs. They all live there and must start doing their share of the work.
I think Brian has left us for pastures new as the wind has dropped and the rain has stopped. But by heck it does feel chilly. I think the coldest night we have had so far.
I managed to avoid all the Strictly spoilers today on the 'net but fully expected it to be Simon going home. Quite a surprise when it wasn't!
Sorry it wasn't better news JACKIE on DD's FIL. Worrying times ahead for them.
