O/S Daily Sunday 22nd October 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

Been awake since 4.00.am this morning and can’t get back to sleep so I’ve given up and got up. I’ve tried to read but can’t concentrate on my book so thought I would get a cup of tea and surf the net for a while.

I hope that everyone has come through the storm without any damage and is ok.

It’s nice to have a tv again even though I don’t watch much. Just a matter of getting used to different controls now and all of the features that a more modern tv has.

As I didn’t go out yesterday I want to go for a walk this morning just to get a bit of fresh air. I will see what the weather is doing and what it looks like out when it gets light.

Other than that no real plans for today, I’ll just see what I feel like doing.

Hugs to those who are having a difficult time at the moment or are unwell.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Morning Hollyharvey and all

Awake bright and early...truth be told I didn't sleep well.

Not much to do today. Just pottering about. Grump(less) says he's skint but the stuff for the new motor keeps coming and we are away tomorrow for the week. This is going to be fun. If we can't afford to go anywhere or do anything and the weather is pants we might as well be at home.

Talking about Grump(less), I need to make him an appointment at the doctors. He's got a mole on his face that's growing. I've nagged him till I'm blue in the face for permission to make an appointment but he's stubborn. Looks like making it myself and damn the consequences.

Youngest has got a well earned day off. He's working himself into the ground.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

  • Morning folks and thanks for the start HH. I was back to a restless night too. Not helped by the painful arm that's been bothering me for going on 3 weeks. Similar to a frozen shoulder but different!

The wind is still blowing away out there and boy did we get some rain yesterday afternoon. It was really beating against the back windows. I hate being stuck in the house but it would have been no fun going out in that!

No fixed plans for today but I want to make a big stock pot of pea and ham soup at some point. I like to keep a soup selection in the freezer and there's none of that left.

Lunch for Mr TA is to be a couple of the ys minted lamb chops I got the other day. I don't like lamb myself so I shall have fish. I suppose now the weather has turned I should be thinking more of comfort food and the usual big Sunday roast dinners that I don't bother with through the warmer months.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the sad, worried and poorlies who want them. JACKIE I hope your DD's FIL recovers ok. Take care all xx

    Good morning all

Thank you Holly for starting us off.

Woke early again and for the first time it really feels chilly, may have to put the heating on.

Sun at the moment, shows I need to clean the windows.

Salmon for dinner so not much cooking.

    Jackie

    Good morning everyone.

Even though we escaped from Brian the wind is up and blustery here this morning. There are various warnings on FB about danger areas on our trunk road about huge ‘lakes’ and potholes. Can’t imsgine going out today.

Yesterday I cooked some belly pork from the freezer and really enjoyed it. I’ve also taken out some liver for today’s main meal which I’ll have with some mash, onions and cabbage.

Last night I chanced upon a delightful serial on Radio 4 iPlayer called ‘Deathwatch Journal’. Five fifteen minute episodes written by Ian Rankin, a sort of crime story with an interesting angle. I got thoroughly immersed in it.

SCD without Bruno brought the panto figure out of Craig, very funny. I’ve seen the spoiler and am not surprised.

I’m for another half hour or so under the duvet just for some reading and surfing.

I hope everyone has a peaceful, enjoyable and happy Sunday.

    Morning All

The rain has stopped for now, it was awful yesterday, I thought it was clearing up mid morning and put the washing out. Big mistake! Still, it had an extra rinse.

Had some visitors yesterday, the family of my colleague who died earlier in the year. Good to see them but was a little rattled by the dad's new 'friend' who has been on holiday with them and also came to visit. Still, each to their own.

Nothing planned for today, I caught up with everything I wanted to watch on TV last night, really enjoyed Simon Reeve's Russian programmes.

Bed change today, more washing hanging about but needs must.

Have a good Sunday, take care. XX

    Good morning all,
Up early as I needed to take DS1 to work for 8am. He crashed his car two weeks ago and we are still waiting for the insurance company to make a decision on repairing it or not. Very frustrating. He will give them a nudge tomorrow as getting cabs to and from work is costing him (we do offer to drive him when we can and he can get the bus there but often finishes after midnight when they've stopped running).
Have been feeling low for a while so will be booking a docs appointment for later this week - I have some time off for half term. DH was really quite nasty yesterday and I was tearful for most of the day. He says I am permanently moody with everyone, and he probably has a point. I am so tired and feel like I do so much for everyone and it's not appreciated. I work full time, plan and shop for the meals, cook most nights, make sure the children have all they need for school including uniform, school trips, food tech, parent evenings, etc. I do most of the housework, all the ironing, see to the dog. I make sure all the birthdays in the family are covered and do everything for Christmas apart from buying the wine, which DH likes to do because it's 'fun'. Sorry this is turning into a rant. I know it's what most Mums/Wives probably do, but to be told I'm moody when it's probably just that I'm tired really got to me.
Hugs to anyone else feeling taken for granted or who could do with one. I know lots of you aren't having the best of times either. It's nearly a year since my nephew died and I know my sister is struggling. My problems are really trivial compared to hers.
JackieO - hope that DDs FIL is okay. Always a worry when loved ones get taken ill, but to be so far away makes it a lot harder.
    Have a good day everyone,

Thanks for the thread Holly, hugs to those in need.
I've only just got up. I didn't sleep right through but read for a while and then slept again.
Coxy, you need to put you foot down and share the chores out.
We have a man visiting today to look at our engine, there is nothing wrong with it but when the boat was built a Volkswagen marine engine was fitted even though it's a canal boat so we've struggled to find someone to service it.
Plans for today include a boat clean and cooking a roadrunner. That should be roast dinner, I think a roadrunner would be a bit tough, bloody tablet.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all

All calm here after storm Brian, we have had rain from tea time Friday till the early hours of this morning and howling winds, luckily no damage though, its bright and sunny this morning so we have stripped the beds and will hang it out for a while.

Need to nip to the shops this morning for some fruit and yogurt for the week and something for lunches, we probably have enough of everything else.

OH put my new laundry/cleaning cupboard and I have to say I love it :jit fits the airer, ironing board, iron etc I have also ordered a cleaning trug to go in the bottom with all cleaning products and cloths in one place, also in there are spare cleaning products DW tabs washing powder bleach etc, its fab having it all in one place out of the way.

Pork chops for dinner tonight with a honey mustard sauce and crushed garlic potatoes, some more chops left for tomorrow.

Anyone heard from mean marie ? I do hope she is ok xx

    Have good days all xx

Coxy the first year is always the most difficult as there is the first of every occasion without the loved one. I think you are right to consider the doctor, and maybe some R&R this week may help you. I agree with Hester that chores should all be shared amongst those living in the home as they benefit everyone. Maybe you could come up with a plan that "the doctor has suggested"...? ;) Big hug from me - I started on "mad in the head" pills 12 months ago and they have helped me no end, as has regaining a better work-life balance.
