Morning everyone,
Cold and blustery here but thankfully no rain, back from the stables and enjoying coffee with bacon butties.
We are off to DB's this afternoon for tea and cake in celebration of our nephews birthday, other than that not a lot planned, think meals will be fluid and dependent on how hungry we are, I have plenty in the freezer to choose from.
Agree that chores should be shared out Coxy otherwise the holidays will just be a brief respite? Hope the docs appointment goes well, my surgery was very good and, will a mixture of pills and counselling, put me back on the road to mental health after losing Mum. Hugs x
Hoping for better news on DD FIL JackieO
Have a good day folks x0 -
Coxy - I too think you should make it clear you need help (easier said than done, I know). Maybe along the lines that the Dr thinks you are doing too much.
Hester, that's one of the best autocorrects I've seen in a while.
The house is getting there, just need to finish the kitchen and dust round. DH did all the vacuuming and cleaned the shower room, I'll get him to clean the kitchen floor and some windows today. I'm looking forward to his retirement then he can be a permanent help!
He's been ordering stuff for the new campervan even though we won't get it in March. It keeps him amused. He's also updated his retirement spreadsheet because we got a much better deal on the van than he'd budgeted for.0 -
Good morning chums lastest news isn't good for our dear Frank, my DD's FIL it seems his CT has shown he has bowel cancer, very worrying for everyone ,especially at his age, and not brilliant health. But we are all trying to keep positive. Thanks for the good wishes chums ,folk are so kind and helpful on here.It restores my faith in the basic kindness of human nature.
This morning I shall be sewing some more squares for the charity blankets. ,it will keep me occupied and busy.
Hope everyone weathered the storm without too much damage .The predicted end of the world scenario never happened in Kent and the wind has dropped considerably and the sun is out at the moment .
Dinner at my youngest DDs later I may take a crumble round for pudding as I have some apples to use up
Have a good and peaceful Sunday chums
Take care

Good morning everyone, we haven't really had a storm here but it has been a bit windy. My washing is out as it has stopped raining.
JackieO I just read your posts from yesterday and this morning, sad to see that the news isn't better.
I made brownies last night, left them out to cool and said they could eat SOME I didn't mean nearly all of a massive panful.
Coxy, I think everyone should do stuff but, like you, I struggle with this. My OH does the shopping and weekday cooking if I'm working but he is oblivious to dirt and mess. He will hang out washing and if I ask him, will Hoover round downstairs while I'm at work but for some reason, he likes to do this just before I get back. So if I come in earlier, it isn't done, perhaps he leaves it hoping that I'll do it from sheer frustration. My son is meant to look after his own room, so it looks as if a tribe of bears has had a big fight in there. No wonder I get tired. I'm not just tired, I'm quite fed up.
I need to iron some clothes for work, and then do a Sunday dinner, which I quite like cooking. Roast pork today, must make some stuffing, roast potatoes, various veg, apple sauce and whatnot. Someone else can wash up.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all.
I hope everyone survived Brian with not much damage. I had to go out in it yesterday as he whipped up the recycling box and contents. They were strewn all over the garden, was like a mini tornado. We were very lucky compared to some though.
I am cooking a roast chicken lunch today and all the veg has been prepped. So I thought I would check in here while I have a coffee break.
I have done a load of washing and hung it out as it is dry but windy and the sun is poking through now and again. But my it is very cold. Winter has arrived I think. There is another load in the WM and the bedding is also waiting it's turn. I may have to put the heating on later to finish drying the washing.
JackieO sorry to hear your news. Many hugs to DD's FIL and family.
TA thanks. It's strange as I feel like it's a cold but it doesn't seem to want to come out IYSWIM. I just wish it would make up it's mind as I'm fed up feeling rotten on and off ! I'm still sniffling and coughing but I'm sure I'll live to see another week or so :rotfl:.
Coxy I echo Floss and Snoozers advice and tell the family they have to take on some chores as per the Dr's instructions.
HollyH enjoy your new TV
RedRuby :j to your new laundry storage, Personally I wish mine would disappear through the back into Narnia. I so hate the ironing and it would give me an excuse never to do any, ever again :rotfl:.
LaineyT enjoy your cake this afternoon.
Judi I hope the weather is kind to you on your break.
Right enough waffling, the WM has finished and the roasties need putting in the oven.
Hugs all round today.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Just a pop in to wish all the best for Jackie's DD's FIL, it's never easy at this stage.
Coxy - your workload and housework sounds horrendous! I remember a while back tru went through the same thing and put her Monty Python foot down two or three times. She left dishes in the sink, only cooked her own food, washed her own clothes and dishes etc. That seemed to work, not sure if it had a long term effect but it helped. You cannot carry on doing everything. Your OH should recall when he wasn't working and you helped him through that...now it's your turn for for spousal support.
The wind is still blowing like a mad thing here. I've ventured out into the garden to cut back the hydrangea (it was becoming a triffid), fill the bird feeders and bring the two potato planters into the small barn. The tops have died down and the soil is just soggy. I won't be surprised if the potatoes have rotted. Since camelot helped me plant them on 09 August I've not had to water them again.
As I had to move some wood to make room for the potato planters I've lit the stove. My plan was to see if the day got colder but have decided I wanted to be cosy instead! I don't use the electric radiators at all so need a bit of warmth. I like to have the front door open as much as possible though I think those days are numbered for the rest of the year.
My DM is getting really anxious about her visitor from Berlin who is arriving tomorrow. The visitor is the estranged wife of the son of my DM's recently deceased cousin - have you kept up?? She invited herself though isn't staying for DM but in a little hotel nearby. They haven't met for over 20 years which is adding to the anxiety. I'll be going down on Wednesday to get some of the strain!
Meanwhile, it's back to some planning and reading. Hope the storm lessens for everyone.0 -
Sorry to hear that JackieO, a difficult time ahead.
Coxy - you can't carry on like that, I would be asking the other members of the household to do their share of chores.
I do hope the tatties are there in the bag Gers, can't believe you haven't had to water them since August!
I have been doing some sewing, not done any for ages, nearly finished a hot water bottle cover but can't find the binding to finish it off. I've also hemmed a piece of material for a new tablecloth, been meaning to do that for ages.0 -
I remember doing nights in the residential home across from my house. On occasions when Grump(less) had to do the odd night shift too i'd pop across the road to home every couple of hours to check on the kids (my eldest kids were 15 and 16 and i was happy enough to leave them). Well the plan was i could be home to take the little ones to school, sleep and pick them up after school.
Well it would have worked well except Grump(less) and i had countless rows about sharing the chores in the house, which with 5 kids was fast becoming a pig sty. I was permanently knackered and he couldnt understand the fuss... "after all, OTHER WOMEN manage".
Sod that, i quit! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
