When 5% fat mince is not 5% fat mince

Hi mse forum folk,
I'm a regular customer at Aldi and was very happy when they eventually started selling 5% fat beef mince as I don't want to be buying mince with a higher fat content than that.
Since I've been buying it, I have on many occasions looked at it and thought, there's way more than 5% fat in that meat!!
However, like today, it's only at the point of opening the pack and tipping it into the pan (normally with onions already cooked in the pan) do you get to see the meat properly. And, like today, there's no way I'm going to scoop it out of the pan, put it into a container, get in the car, drive to Aldi and ask for an exchange. Cos at that point, what I need to do is cook the tea! Also, I can't see that an exchange would be of any use as the mince in another pack will probably be the same.
What I feel is that Aldi are deliberately mis-labelling something.
I had a look at the trading standards website but it seems to be directed at an individual complaint about a product (for example a faulty product) whereby I think this issue is bigger than that. I'd like some sort of organisation to actually check this meat and hold Aldi to account if indeed they are mis-selling products.
That's my rant over
Anyone got any ideas, other than me buying my mince elsewhere?
Thanks

Why don't you contact Aldi initially? They would be in a position to investigate with the producer. Until they actually receive a complaint they are probably unaware of the problem.
Or you could try a vegetarian diet so you'll never have to worry about 5% fat.:)0 -
Got any proof of it?
I could only really see a watchdog and maybe the ASA being interested in it tbh.0 -

Why do you want such low fat mince?. If it is for health reasons then you don't need to worry because it has now been proven that a fatty diet is actually good for you and it's sugar that put's on weight.
Although that doesn't make it right that they are selling products that are incorrectly described. But considering you seem to buy this regularly then why don't you check it before putting it into the pan and then if there is an issue take it back so they can investigate and check the fat content.0 -
High fat is not recommended for diabetics.
5% fat is more than enoughmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

You certainly could report it to trading standards but they're unlikely to take action on 1 complaint.
You could complain to aldi also. You don't need to take the product back. Usually if you contact them and explain, they'll ask you to retain the packaging and bring that back with your receipt. Not sure if its nationwide but any time I've had to return food items to aldi, they'll refund what I paid and also put through a few items in my shopping without scanning them. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
How did you check the fat content? Are you a bio chemist perhaps? Or are just making random guesses and wild assumptions?0

Are you sure about that, some vegetarian and vegan foods have high fat levels e.g. Eggs 10%, avocados 15%, Brazil nuts 67%.0 -
How on earth can you tell by looking at mince that it's not 5% fat ?0

I eat Aldi 5% mince regularly and it is excellent, as is their 12% mince. I vary as the fat has more flavour.
It is impossible to accurately tell the amount of fat from a visual inspection.0
