My cash deposits have always shown as credited instantly, even on a Saturday. They do swipe my card, plus also write down the sort code / account number on their own internal deposit slip, and I receive a receipt of my own. As others have said, you did receive a receipt, right?0

That's always been the same for me with Nationwide, even on a Saturday. They swipe your debit card, press a few buttons on the keyboard and ask if you want a receipt.
The money, or cheque, has always shown on my account instantly, even on Saturdays. Maybe their systems were temporarily down when the OP went into the branch? If so, they could have recorded the deposit manually to be keyed in when the systems were back up and running.0 -
There could be lots of reasons, the systems could be down or offline for some planned reason. If the branch was busy an additional member of staff may have been taking deposits to be keyed in later etc etc. Just keep the receipt and query it say, Monday lunchtime.0

Maybe you missed the bit that followed:Deposits, withdrawals and interest (excluding cheques)
10. Cash and automated credits deposited into the account will be available for withdrawal immediately and interest will be earned from the date of deposit. There may be a delay of one working day if deposits are made at a Nationwide cash machine. We will credit your account with the amount which has been verified and accepted by us when we check the deposit.
The OP does not specify clearly how the money was deposited.0 -
The OP does not specify clearly how the money was deposited.
The OP says:This time, they didn't even use the card, they just wrote down the amount I am putting in and some details and I was told that's all fine.
So it clearly wasn't a cash machine, and can only mean they paid the money in at the counter.0
