I'm intrigued as to why the water company has agreed to that without consulting you or seeing any evidence - is that normal? I've never bought a house before, but it seems silly (and concerning) that a person completely uninvolved with your account can potentially have your service terminated!
Hope it all goes well

There was some poor poster on another forum I frequent who had their Virgin Media account closed by some random - and they couldn't get it reinstated because Virgin refused to deal with them as they weren't a "current customer". Processes at these companies can leave something to be desired!
Shame I'm late to the thread - I'd have suggested paying the full £8,000, but only on condition the buyer pays £20,000 more for the house in case its value increases in future...0 -
Op have you checked with other utilities such as electric, gas, telephone in case she is doing this to them as well ?0

When you ring utility suppliers and tell them you've just moved into a new address and to change the accounts to your name, they just do it. No proof of ownership or occupancy is required. Probably because the number of people bonkers enough to voluntarily take on the bills for a house they don't own or live in is quite small.0 -
I'd be tempted to let her take over the gas, leccie etc from Monday week.
If she wants to become responsible for your bills, let her!
I assume once you've Exchanged, you'll start replacing all the energy efficient bulbs with nice cheap 2nd hand old ones, and don't forget to find some road-kill to put under the floorboards.........
