Had a few spends, £4.75 in Sainsbobs on dairy free cheese & Vegenaise and £3 at the market on 4kg of onions, tomatoes and 2 pineapples. Gonna make some onion & garlic soup, trying anti-inflammatory food. Not too sure if tomatoes are, too much conflicting information out there - does anyone know ?? I may venture to get some turmeric tomorrow and maybe some broccoli to try some soup recipes (anti inflammatory) and that is mostly my spends done for the month. Off to update sig.

Most “inflammatory/anti-inflammatory diet” information available online is absolute rubbish. Tomatoes are a good example. Historically, people with stomach ulcers were told not to eat tomatoes because they are acidic. However, if you look at the chemistry, the small amount of acidity in a tomato would dilute the level of acid in your stomach (stomach acid has a pH of 4.5 IIRC), raising the pH and making your stomach less acidic. Research also backs up that the acid content of foods - as a factor on its own - makes no difference.

Why are you trying an anti-inflammatory diet? If it is to do with your gut, then I’d stick to the advice of the Crohns-and-colitis people regarding diet.https://www.crohnsandcolitis.org.uk/about-inflammatory-bowel-disease/publications/food-and-ibd. They are the professionals, backed up with research.

I bust my budget this month. In my defence I'm a new veggie and am trying all kinds of new things, so will regroup for the December challenge.

Declaring for November. 5th and Final shop! Spend today £70.94
Additional spends :£6 on a bottle of wine, £3.34 milk.

    Grand Total: £368.09 *whoop whoop*

That included Xmas cards today, and wrapping paper. I screwed up on wine though. Mr T has his 25% off 6 bottles so I bought 6, realised when I got home I hadn't received the discount, drove back to T's and the minimum bottle price to get the discount was £4.35, I buy the own brand Shiraz at £4.15. Boo!
Remembered to place the butchers order for Xmas, hoping to stick at £400 next month which may be tough.
Slightly obsessed with this now, but it's a good obsession! see you all on the December thread from next week though I won't shop next weekend as we move house on the 6th.

Another £4 spent today on yoghurts and 8 mini pork pies. (We hadn’t had breakfast, were heading out for the day and needed something to keep us going before joining a friend for lunch. We only needed 2 each but it was more economical to buy 8 for £2 instead of 4 for £1.60. DH can eat the rest for his lunch.)

Anyway, that brings our total spend for the month to £96.91/£155.69, leaving £58.78 left to spend for the month. It’s unlikely that we’ll do another shop this month, but I won’t declare until the last day of the month.

Going to have a catch up with how everyone's doing but thought I'd post my spends since I last updated. Last weeks spent £8.42 and £20.44 and today have spent £32.28. Also have a Tesco order coming on Tuesday which is going to be about £40 which includes 2 boxes of beer to put away for Christmas. I'll update when I know the final total.

    So current spends are £149.65

That still leaves me with £18.12 in the budget for Week 4 but apart from milk I shouldn't need anything else.

That plan went out of the window as DH managed to spend ... £17. I only wanted eggs. :( I knew I should have gone myself! So now the budget is down to £1.12 - just enough for the milk. :D Not to worry, everything will get used.

Now today and tomorrow is prepping breakfasts and lunches for next week to they and keep in good habits :A

    Catching up.

£20 on two christmas do's next month - and £5 on my secret santa gift but that's not from this budget.

£5 + £3 on groceries this week Iceland meal deal and some cookies from sainsbugs + a MOC for a free tin of mango in juice.

I did spend £15 on takeout but they screwed up so refunded me - I didn't really care as the food was fine and reheated okay but it means I'm not going to count it in the budget because it was free.

Payday Thursday so this is my last week... should be on budget but I've been in an odd mood lately so it's too soon to tell...

Nothing meal planned for next week and truth be told I can't be bothered right now. Fruit needs eating and I might just grab something from the freezer as and when.

    Total spend so far in November = £57 food + £93 'social' = £150
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Thanks Pipney. I was confused about tomatoes, thanks for clearing that up. It's not the gut, I think I might have a slight case of rosacea, not really sure, gonna try and get an appointment with my Dr. but trying a few options in the meantime.

It can become obsessive, but I love it.

I am going to declare at £46.21/£80, £33.79 under, which will go in2 the bulk buy fund. If I do buy anything, I will take it out of there. See you in December.
  • have totted up my spends for the month and including my bulk shop mid month have spent £141.30.
am rather amazed its so low but once I actually sat and thought about it I realised I've only done 3 proper shops this month and a only handful of a few pounds worth of shops.
maybe I should get depressed more often.
