It is the card end date and the policy end date are very different things as you have said.
The card was open until 2012 so you definitely qualify.
Also please note that the closure date on the bank's systems may be be much later than the date you think you closed the account. You may think you closed the card in 2005 but the bank may not have closed the account on their systems for many years later. In such a scenario they may deem that you qualify.0 -

If a customer instructs the Bank to close an account then the Bank is duty bound to do just that at the time-not years later...0 -
I work in this precise field of work so I think I know what I am talking about. A credit card account may still produce blank statements on the banks systems for many years after the original account closure and this is how the closure will be determined in some banks.
Essentially what I am saying is it is definitely worth trying.0
