but according to Cust Services they shouldnt have .....and the girl I spoke to today said that she would have given the same advice as previous advisor. (because they had been told to emphasise that no DDs would be paid from 22nd) ....she acknowledged that it was probably for the reason I mentioned in my previous post, (DDs requested a few days earlier than payment date )........but that she wouldnt have thought of that!! ...

Not very good education of their staff

You are probably right. I posted this on another thread, as a bank will have visibility of a DD before the debiting date. Natwest for example used to be very annoying and remove funds from the account before the due date if it happened to fall on a weekend.

So when Tesco said 22 would be the last day, they would have requested the money for these a few days prior, and so would be in the system for 22nd. As it happened to be a Sunday, the money would go out the next working day.

I have no doubts that any future DDs will be stopped, but I have some on 26th so we shall see!

That is why I am doing nothing with my Tesco dds until I have proof that they are actually stopping them. Could be very interesting.

Not sure what the point is?

Presumably you have replacements for all DDs you need? Otherwise Tesco cancelling them will leave you with no alternatives and you will look a bit silly/a few months short whilst you seek new ones elsewhere.

If you have replacements and Tesco keep the DDs active, you will have twice as many DDs as you need.
  • OK Just had call back from a MANAGER - who said she would have advised the same thing as the previous two advisors!!

However she had spoken to the payments team and confirmed our suspicions above .........

Offered small amount of compensation which I accepted as on this occasion the misinformation hadnt actually cost me anything.....

For the benefit of others she also confirmed that due to the funds being requested three working days before, the LATEST any DDs will actually be pulled in is the 25th ...... so the poster above who has them set for 26th wont get them...... (again I specifically asked about 26th because my partner has some set for that date and the 'donor' accounts for those have been emptied.....)

There is no DD showing on the savings accounts, just the linked accounts, so any DD that were paid after 22nd wont be actioned as they have now been cancelled. I notice that there is only linked accounts held in your own name, im not sure how they know who is the account holder as they only ask for the sort code and account number (not relevant for me as I only have accounts in my name attached as linked accounts, although its not a fan of sending money to Santander and cant work out why)

I also spoke to Tesco about my DD due out on the 22nd and was told they wont go out as this is the date that they are being removed, I wasnt too sure, so I kept the money in the account just in case and what happened!!!

Yes they came out, but the amount left my bank accounts 2 days before they appeared in my Tesco accounts.

All sorted for replacements, so its just a tidy up needed now, of my YNAB cancelling all the DD to Tesco from my numerous accounts its was pulling from.

@steve, I would probably put funds back in there just to be sure!

Will cost you a penny in interest but rather that than have failed DDs and the mess.

    This is getting strange now.

I have had 2 transactions appear in my Tesco savings accounts today, which are DDs that are/were due to go out on 26th. They havent appeared as debits in the bank account.

Not quite sure how/why but I would keep the accounts they pull from funded at this stage.
  • After they basically admitted they didnt have a clue what was happening and immediately offered me compensation for the misinformation, I dont think I will re-fund the accounts, as there is now a recorded telephone conversation when they have explicitly told me that they will NOT come out. Pretty sure I would get more immediate compensation if they did.......

I've checked the bank accounts from which my Tesco direct debits used to extract funds to see whether the DDs were still active.

Santander123 accounts no longer list the Tesco DDs (they were there last weekend).
M&S current accounts no longer list the Tesco DDs (they were there last weekend).

Lloyds & HBOS accounts still display the Tesco DDs with the date & amount of the last debit.**

So it appears that Tesco are contacting the DD sources to tell them to delete their DD arrangements. (Either they've yet to contact Lloyds Banking Group or Lloyds haven't actioned the deletion.)

**Edit Mon 30-Apr: Tesco's DDs have disappeared from all my BoS & Halifax accounts and one of my ClubLloyds accounts, but are still visible on one ClubLloyds account.

This is quite funny now. I moved the £40 from my savings accounts when these transactions appeared.

The direct debits have now been reversed and the savings accounts are overdrawn!

    Friends,

I have closed my Tesco and just this minute opened a Post Office Online Saver. It took 3 minutes and the DD is all set up!

    Sorted!

Tesco will be the losers in this!

How many DDs can be set up on this account? How many accounts can one have?
