All trampolines require fixing to the ground with an anchor kit and fixing kits are very cheap (£11 on Amazon) or come with the trampoline. If you don't fix the trampoline, this is the equivalent of leaving your car hand-brake off and you would be liable for any damage.

A trampoline is essentially a massive sail so it's obvious it will not stay in place in anything other than light winds. Just spend £11 on a kit if your trampoline didn't come with one.

As for the bill - request 3 quotes rather than one. That's perfectly reasonable.

Really, who says! it may be desireable and adviseable but from what I can gather it is not a requirement???

It is if you want to keep your trampoline in high winds and not lay yourself open to a neighbourly dispute over damaged caused by your errant twanger.

Note that the post above did not say 'legal requirement', just that it's 'required'.

those anchor kits don't look much cop to me and many reviews saying straps on them have broke, i have mine chained to the fence in a corner so its also sheltered from the wind

If you want to be reasonable tell him you'll pay his car insurance excess, other than that tell him where to go with his quote

Sorry, but its wholly the O/Ps fault for not securing it.

I would do what insurance companies do, call it act of god and not cover against it. When OP said he would pay for damages, I'm sure he had in his mind an approximate cost. The actual cost was dramatically more than this. OP should offer to pay the cost he had in mind as good will. 2.5k is absurd even if it is genuine.
Sometimes my advice may not be great, but I'm not perfect and I do try my best. Please take this into account.

Really...because I've never known a car to blow over a fence by the wind. And never seen a trampoline on 4 wheels.

I don't know anybody who have pinned down their trampoline. And never known of one that has blown away until this thread. They are hardly light toys!

Really? Blown away trampolines are in the paper all the time. Also a few years ago I was nearly hit by a runaway trampoline on my cycle to work - they're very dangerous in high winds. Luckily we're only talking about a car here but it could have been a child or elderly person. They need to be well anchored down

This is getting out of hand. This should have been solved ages ago. OP needs to stick to her guns and agree to do whatever she first agreed to do.

Also, OP just curious are you American?
