I make it with half s/s milk and half water but then I ruin that with golden syrup because it is gorgeous. Tinned fruit is lovely on porridge, prunes or peaches particularly, maple syrup is lovely but my absolute hands down favorite is nutella. Obviously none of my toppings are super healthy but I find a massive bowl of porridge and a good cup of coffee see me through my 20+ mile bike rides whilst DH is chugging along behind me on a bowl of rice crispies - he won't listen to my advice.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Just on its own is best. Made on water, a bit of milk around the edges and a drizzle of honey. Or salt if you are that way inclined. Cream on Sundays lol.
Our expectations are heightened to include all kinds of fancy things to porridge, but it is best just au naturel.
I agree porridge is a great and healthy way to have some low release food first thiing in the morning I have a half a cup of porridge to a cup and a half of water bring to the boil stirring all the time until thickened then pour into a bowl surround it with a little milk and sprinkle a little salt on top.Nothing else needs to be added.I have been making it like this for 65 odd years and its one of the good things about a cold morning a nice hot bowl of porridge warms you up on a cold morning .I have never used 'instant' porridge as it only takes a couple of minutes to make anyway. A kilo will cost you about 60-70 p and lasts for ages. plus a handful in with mince will streeetch out the meat to go a bit further0 -

Couple of spoonfuls of plain greek yoghurt ( don't make porridge with milk - yuk) and a desertspoon of maple syrup drizzled over the top. Or just the maple syrup on its own.
I've also used berries and fruit, both fresh and frozen.
Of course the traditional way, and the way I was taught by my father, of eating porridge is to make your porridge using rolled oats or preferably pinhead oatmeal, water and salt, and then to dip a spoonful of the cooked porridge into a separate little dish of single cream/top of the milk before eating it. I've also added a bit of clotted cream when I had some left over when entertaining guests to a home-made cream tea. Adding cream as a change is highly recommended!Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

I add blueberries or raspberries (in the winter I buy frozen ones at the supermarket and they cool the porridge down nicely so it is ready to eat). I've also added seeds, sliced banana, chopped apple, any kind of berries. Also I add a little cinnamon to it, and sometimes honey or syrup if I want it sweeter.0

All of my usual favourites are listed above...but I also love nutmeg and a squirt of golden syrup...it tastes exactly like rice pudding and makes an excellent pudding or supper when you've had a big lunch.0
