Went to view a car on Wednesday 11th,
Decided to purchase car as we already had finance in place,
Car was mot'd same day with the mileage 81614
Receipt and warranty shows mileage of 81616
i googled mapped dealer to mot station, and its 8.4 mile round trip.
Would you say this car has been mot'd ? and where do i stand?

What is the actual odometer reading on the car. Maybe the person filling in the receipt misread the mileage.
Do you want an excuse not to buy?0 -
no i've already got the vehicle and used it for 2 days to commute to and from work ,but there is a mileage discrepancy, the person entering the mileage at the mot station would not have got it wrong , not by -2 miles.0

Perhaps it was taken on a low loader? 2 miles could allow for running round the dealership for a PDI, or whatever you call it for a used car.0

How do you know? I had a car once with over 100K miles added at the MOT by accident.0 -
presumably you got a print of the MOT certificate or at least checked the electronic online version?0

MOT is a worthless piece of paper once the car has left the test bay anyway. I'd not lose much sleep over it. I'm assuming that you did a good inspection of the vehicle before you bought it and that its not banging and clattering down the road? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Erm, except it a not.
You mean a MOT isn't a worthless piece of paper?
You can have a car pass a MOT, drive it out the test centre, go round a corner too fast and bend the hell out of the front suspension. But its in good condition because it has a new MOT?
You can have a car pass a MOT with a clutch slipping so badly it can barely make it onto the ramp. But its in good condition because it has a new MOT?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I must admit, I've always been a little suspicious of anyone who says "It's not MOT'd but I'll put one on it for you", especially a private seller.
I know dealers are a different kettle of fish & they might not want to MOT a car that's going to sit on a forecourt for a while but I always wonder what's to stop them just doing the paperwork?0 -
If you are really bothered for sake of piece of mind stop wasting time on internet forums and just go an get another MOT done. That is £60 at the most. If it finds anything then discuss with dealer, if not get on with your life.
Are there any advisories ? I would expect something on an 80K car.0
