I know you can claim taxes back for a missed flight from uk but can you claim the tax back thats added if you book a flight from USA to England. My son booked a flight with Thomas Cook but ended up having to come home 2 week early so paid for another flight. I have emailed them several times to ask them but they will not reply.

He needs to have another read of terms and conditions he agreed to. They will tell him about tax refunds, but I'm pretty sure TCX only refund APD, possibly less an admin charge. Taxes departing the US wouldn't be much anyway. It's the APD that's the big one.0 -
On a one way ticket in economy there are 3 USA charges with a total of approx £21.20
BA stopped refunding 2 (and another one but that's an US arrival charge) of those in July which would leave you £4.30 so even if TC still does refund US taxes etc then their charge will be more than you get back in this case.
Be nice if TC just explained that though.0 -
Thanks when I added all the charges up on the breakdown on the receipt it's was just under £100 it was a Thomas cook premium flight. I thought I might be able to claim some back. They won't reply to my emails and have been on their Facebook page numerous times. I just wanted to know but they won't tell me.0

Flying PE won't make a difference to the taxes on a flight departing the USA. As previous poster said, they come to around £20. Some aren't even that much, depending on the airport.0 -
It's often only the APD element of the combined taxes, charges and fuel supplements that are considered refundable. Even then some airlines will charge an administration fee which can outway the APD refund.
APD (Air Passenger Duty) is only payable on flights leaving the U.K. so in this case I don't think anything is due on the unused inbound US/UK flight.0 -

If you have the 2 letter charge codes on the breakdown one might be YQ or YR that will be probably the highest charge.
Used to be known as fuel surcharge now its carrier imposed surcharge, the airlines had to dodge the question of why the fuel surcharge didnt drop when the price of oil did a few years ago so changed its meaning.
Its never refundable on a non refundable ticket.0
