I didn't realise that direct debits also deactivated at 12 months. In which case using one's debit or credit card with the latest possible expiry date is clearly the better option. Dart Charge do say they will email to let you know so you can provide another card to pay with if you make a journey through the crossing and have registered your vehicle on Pay As You Gp but they can't take payment on the card you initially registered with them.molerat said:

A lot of debit and credit cards now have up to 5 years validity but in my experience they don't always physically last that long if you use that card very frequently. And any replacement card will always have a different CVV number, even if the card number remains the same (some issuers change the card number when a card is replaced as a an alleged security measure while other card issuers don't do this as there is actually no need due to the CVV number change on every single card replacement).0 -
They do not use the CVV to take payments. Unless it is a one off over the phone/internet.NonGeographicalMan said:molerat said:

It would be illegal for them to store the CVV and leave them open to a massive fine if they did...Life in the slow lane0 -
So best to use a card that does not change its card number on reissue and also with a long validity period, such as those issued by Nationwide. I think often when a card is lost and replaced it only acquires the original validity date and not a further extended one.......................born_again said:

Although if we are to believe Dart Charge as long as they have the registration number they will just send an email asking for a new card to pay with if the one that is registered will not process successfully.
Ultimately all these camera using toll charging facilities ought to allow payment through a common inter-operable platform, And the charge on the M25 in any case shouldn't be there....................

No problem getting refund! I got the notification of imminent cancellation, so decided NOT to add yet more funds to keep it active - there was already plenty of cash in it! Called their CS number, eventually got a person, and he closed the account and put in a refund request. Cheque should arrive within 2 to 4 weeks. We discussed the nonsense of them potentially losing the £millions they sit on, and he said it wasn’t DARTs choice to close inactive accounts, it was because it was a Govt backed site and it was their T&Cs being invoked!
Anyway, would recommend anyone not planning to use the crossing due to COVID (or whatever) to close the account by phoning and they will be entitled to a full refund! Better this than having it closed automatically and then trying to get a refund - may not be so easy!!0 -
Bridge was built with the promise that tolls would only be charged until the building costs were covered in 2003.
17 years later, they're still stealing the public's money.0
