Halifax credit card 2.9% interest email offer - potential scam?

Hi,
Received an email last night re. an interest offer of 2.9% for 9 months on my Halifax credit card. I've never had an offer come through by email before, usually it is by post enclosed with the monthly statement. The offer could be activated by clicking on a link in the email or ringing 0345 608 1417, and this has to be done by 10pm on October 29th. The email had my correct name and title, included the last part of my postcode to prove it was 'genuine' and worryingly included the last 4 digits of my card. The sender was info@customer.halifax.co.uk
Rather than ring the number specified I have just rung the general credit card no. for Halifax and spoken to an adviser. They have not heard of this offer and were also unsure if it was legit. They tested the number and it was answered by someone claiming to be the Halfax (but agreed anyone could do this) and checked the email address. They concluded that there was nothing to suggest it was a scam but given that they did not know anything about the offer were very unsure about it and advised not to take it up.
Just wondering if anyone else has received a similar email and whether they have acted on it, or decided to leave well alone?

Have you logged into your account and looked at the balance transfer section? The offer may be there, I was also sent an offer code that could be entered. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

It's a legit offer.
Halifax call centre staff won't have heard of it because most of them don't have a clue beyond their scripts and they would rather err on the side of caution than tell you it is real and then you later find out it is fake. They don't have access to Halifax's marketing team or what e-mails they send out.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards.
