Hardly - that's precisely what distraction fraudsters do. Indeed the ACPO spokesman quoted recently, said there were 14,000 cases reported in 2015 and they suspect there were many more elderly and vulnerable victims who simply either didn't realise or didn't report the matter as they were embarrassed that they had been defrauded without realising. [Thankfully GMP caught 8 thieves in just one week of monitoring CCTV after a spate in a hotspot in a part of Manchester]

Just wondered how you got on?
My 19 year old son who is a student in Manchester had similar experience. Came out of a nightclub at 4.00am went to use ATM and was distracted by someone asking him to change 2 fivers....
Didn't realise til he got home that his card was gone. He tried to report online but website was down.
Lloyds phoned him next morning to ask if he had made a small payment at a convenience store and he checked his banking app to see that £1,100ish had come out in several transactions overnight which he told them.
Called police to report it, got a case number for Lloyds who seemed at the time to think he would get a refund.
Not heard anything from them for over a week and called again today to be told that they weren't going to give him a refund as thought his chip and pin had been compromised and suggested he call action-fraud..
Can't quite believe that this can happen.... Since googling it sounds like it's happening quite a lot in Manchester.
Any help in what to do next would be much appreciated...0 -

Would have thought he'd update the thread if he'd been refunded.0 -

Hi,
My purse was stolen with all my ID including - driving licence, NI card, Credit Card, Debit card. My pin was in the purse but not with the actual debit card. The criminal stole £8,250 on a watch, then tried to take £300 out of the cash point, that's when the bank txt me. The bank says I'm liable because the pin was in my purse. Why did the bank not check on such a large amount before they made me aware as at that point I did not know my purse had been stolen. For 3 days the money was pending in my account before it showed up on my statement, so why did the bank not stop the money going out of my account? I feel so violated and the bank have made ME feel like the criminal. I'm an honest hardworking person and to think that the bank I trust to keep my money safe have not supported me in this at all. This has gone to appeal and it will properly go to the onbudsman. This is so unfair.
They have clear CCTV footage of the person using my card.0 -
I sympathise, but card and PIN in the same bag is a no-no, as you've found out.. . and to think that the bank I trust to keep my money safe have not supported me in this at all
I hope you get it sorted, let us know what happens.0
