The guy who came to view the car was a trader, who fixed up cars and sold them on, he had a diagnostic tool that flagged up possible injector and DPF issue.
He paid ~£200 for the car which I was happy with and the car is now back on the road, so everyone is happy. I wouldn't be willing to pay for those repairs myself but if you have the knowledge and tools to DIY them it was probably worth it for him. I expect he got around a £750 for it.
this exactly...did the same with my Mk1 vectra diesel - took it for MoT bang-on a month early, and included a photo of the failure sheet in the advert....still got £150 for it......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

There are HUNDREDS of used car buying guides out there on the internet, let's save anybody typing them out all over again, it would have taken you less time to google it than type your post.0 -
polo 6n is a bombproof little car like the golf mk3.... not much to go wrong. the 6n2 has more electrics and warning lights to go wrong. what about a Toyota aygo 1.0, £20 tax a year I think and great on fuel?0

get the most horrible most worthless car imagineable. i.e. a BMW M3 at £1000 is probably one to avoid whereas a Daihatsu at £1000 is probably a sensible price for a decent Daihatsu.0

So i see upon looking into it that the Ford fusion 1.4 TDCi does indeed have great real world fuel economy but also the 1.6 TDCi seems to be around the same real world fuel economy but far quieter and a better drive well thats according to the Fusion / Fiesta owners im assuming its the same engine used in both?0

We've had a facelift 2003 Volvo S40 kicking around in a family since new, probably on its 6th owner (nephew now I think....)
it was kicking around the RealibiltyIndex top 20 cars for over a decade !!! Thats bloody impressive!
It's based on a Mitsubishi chassis and it's a 1.9 Renault diesel and always had around 50mpg mixed on the trip computer which was bloody impressive for such a comfy car as it definitely wasn't a cheap one. Proper leather, electric heated seats, sunroof, xeon headlights - cruise control - the works!!!
it's got 220k on the clock and still going and I think the most expensive thing that was replaced was the clutch when I had it at 170k and thats it!
Plus I can vouch to its Volvo safety first hand on two separate occasions... The first being a full sized 4x4 came ramming into the side of me when he decided to floor it out of a petrol station looking the wrong way, the car barley took a hit I couldn't believe it! The second occasion I ended up writing off a brand new BMW as the driver in true BMW fashion decided to change from the 3rd to the 1st lane in one swoop at top gun speeds, and the only bloody damaged to the Volvo was a few deep bumper scrapes and a missing license plate!:D:rotfl:
Lots of one owner S40's are being flooded on the market now as its been a good decade since the last one rolled off the line, so its best if you take a look.
