Don't worry. You'll be the one who's laughing, when, by the end of your mortgage, you look back and can give yourself a big slap on the back knowing you've saved an extra 20p because of your OCD.

Hi FB and all!
I am a regular lurker on your thread and would like to add my congrats at your fab end of year statement:D
Since happening upon this website at the tail end of last year, I have started making overpayments of £1200 a month and I can honestly say I feel so happy in my decision. Instead of feeling like I have less money I actually feel flush! lol
I can only attribute this to the fact that I am watching every penny instead of being flippant about purchases?
I have to make the decision as to whether I am happy enough to leave it at that or if I should throw another £300+ a month at it and try to shave off another year whilst the rates are in my favour (tracker).
Anyway, loving the site and always check in to your thread for the latest updates and wish everyone all the best in their challenges for the years to come :beer:0 -

So, if you have your mortgage with Nationwide, then I guess you’re likely to see your annual statement in the next few days.

I got my Nationwide statement too but it makes depressing reading.
I only paid off just over £1300 off my mortgage in 08. I knew this on a monthly level but seeing it for the year so clearly was very disheartening!
Oh well I managed to save ~£3k towards my renovation fund and have increased my emergency savings from ~5 months to ~8+ (and rising) months worth in 08. I just need to completely fill the rest of my 08/09 ISA then save another £3k for renovations and then finally start making overpayments! I will start overpayments this year - if all goes well hopefully in Autumn/early winter 09. I want my next statement to make me smile!
Well done everyone else!!Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

A few months ago I was in the fortunate position to be able to pay my mortgage off. That day will be with me forever ! I called into my local building society branch with a large amount of money to pay it off. The look on the cashiers face was a picture. I walked out of that branch feeling like a lottery winner. The whole experience was better than s-x :j
but of course I could be doing it wrong
Good luck to all of you in your efforts to pay off your mortgages.0 -

Hi FB:hello:
I've been an avid lurker around the MFW boards for sometime now, and have finally read all your MFW diary over the past week. You really are inspirational and share so much of yourself in your writing.
I have plans to pay mortgage early(don't tell DH) and have been making regular overpayments, mostly due to the decreases in BoE. I haven't actually declared the date on pen and paper, as such but I've got an end date in mind. Hoping to trim about 8 yrs off our 25 yrs term, is still another 12 years away:eek: (oops, looks like I've finally confessed a target date).
How I'm going to stay motivated for another 12 years, is another question? Any ideas anybody?
Hope you don't mind, if I continue to read your progress and contribute to your thread from time to time.
Good Luck
