  • A couple of questions this evening!

Window cleaner. We get our windows plus conservatory cleaned every 2 weeks by a window cleaner. This has recently gone up to 4.60, ie 4.60 * 26 / 12, ie almost a tenner a month. Was about to cancel this, due to increased costs, but was informed that they could clean the windows less frequently. They’re now getting cleaned once a month @ 4.60. Will trial this for a while to see how it goes!

If you’re looking to clear mortgage, do you use a window cleaner, or do you clean them yourself to cut costs?

Car service. Just got a letter from dealership where we bought the car indicating that the car is nearly due for an annual service and touting for business. Do you use a main dealership, independent garage or get the car serviced less frequently than annually?

It’s a diesel, which I think I read somewhere they should be serviced annually. Had the car nearly a year now and we haven’t had it serviced before. Again, just looking to cut costs here, if I can.

    Any answers appreciated!

    Hi,

Having your windows cleaned every two weeks seems rather excessive to me. I like clean windows, but only have them done 3-4 times a year - basically when they need doing. How many windows do you have/how big is the conservatory? £4.60 sounds cheap, but is this only because you were having them done so often. I pay £12 as and when I want them done, tho some cleaners charge £20 for a once-off clean. It may just depend on which area you are in. I have recently bought myself a squeegee just to give them a quick going over when i have the time to save some money, but it's the getting round to it!! I will prob get someone in, just because I haven't got time and they are now looking dirty!!

With the car, main dealerships tend to be more expensive, so probably would be best to have a ring round some local garages and see how much they charge. Also, if using an independant garage its a good idea, if you can, to get other people's opinions just so you are not likely to get ripped off for things that are not actually a problem.

Good Luck and well done so far on your debt busting!!:T

We used to get Renault to service our car (scenic) whilst it was newish - now that it is oldish (x reg) we go to a local garage who seem very good. Are you looking to turn it over in a few years or run it into the ground?
  • We do our own windows, well OH does.

As for the car, we've got a diesel, it goes to local independant chap who we really trust and does a fab job.

    Hi jexysbird.
Yes - I'm realising that now. Wasn't so expensive before we got the conservatory. We've 5 windows and front door at front. 3 windows (plus one above conservatory that they can't easily get to therfore don't clean), and back door at the back plus a 4m x 4m conservatory.

I was happy to start cleaning them myself until they said what about once a month! Guess I can still decide to clean them myself, however I find that it's the (little) time I've available that's the stopper - cleaning them wouldn't bother me - we've got ladders etc.

    Hi setmefree2,

It's just turned 3 (05 plate) and got less that 25k miles on the clock. I'd like to keep this until after the mortgage has been paid off, if at all possible :D Run into ground - well it's already completely paid for, so I'd like to hold on to it for as long as it remains economical for us to do so...

The rain cleans our windows! I only do the downstairs ones outside when it's getting hard to see out - or can be bothered whichever comes first!

I'd go for a local garage then (but I'm not an expert on cars:rotfl:) - do you have a good one?
