I used to use this site

https://www.saynoto0870.com/

But nowadays it is becoming less relevant as the use of premium phone line is already made illegal here in the UK

Nowadays most numbers are inclusive to your allowance. But if you do not have unlimited call allowance, calling to the companies like banks, utilities companies could still be tricky as you might on the line for more than 30 minutes.

Does anyone knows the sites similar to the above link provide the link of Free phone call 0800-.

Any info on this will be very much appreciated.

You might be better off with with the weQ4U app which will do the queuing for you. Find it in most app stores.

The role of the sayNOto0870 website has changed quite a bit over the years.

From inception, it was designed to help callers avoid expensive advertised 084 and 087 numbers and find hidden and non-advertised 01 and 02 numbers. It did this very well.

For 080 numbers, there was a dual purpose. As calls to 080 numbers from landlines were free, people would look for those in place of 084 and 087 numbers and sometimes in place of 01 or 02 numbers. As calls to 080 numbers from mobiles were chargeable, people would look to avoid those and find an 01 or 02 number.

From 2007 onwards, the sayNOto0870 website could also be used to find 03 numbers as this new number range started to come into use.

Regulations banning the use of premium rate 084 and 087 numbers by retailers, traders and passenger transport companies came into force in June 2014 and were extended to cover the financial sector in October 2015. The high level of compliance with those regulations means the site is not needed so frequently these days. However, it is still needed for various sectors such as sales lines, especially ticket sales, a few local authorities and a number of charity helplines.

Ofcom's reforms in July 2015 made 080 numbers free-to-caller on landlines and on mobiles. This caused another shift in what the site is used for and led to the Home Page text being updated to reflect those changes.

Nowadays the site is used by those looking to avoid calling premium rate 084 and 087 numbers by finding a cheaper 01, 02 or 03 number or a free-to-caller 080 number.

It can also be used by those looking for an 080 number in place of an 01, 02 or 03 number. For mobile users, this is the exact opposite of what it was used for before 2015. However, as the called party has to pay for incoming calls, not many organisations offer free-to-caller 080 numbers.

Could you please elaborate more about this, it seems to me just to avoid a premium price of 0845 0870 but still take your monthly allowancee according to this, right ??

"I installed this on my Android phone a few weeks ago. Today I rang several 08** numbers.
They got diverted through WeQ4U and cost me nothing, they came off my monthly allowance. I didn't use the 9* feature as I got through to an agent quickly in all cases....for a change."

Nowadays premium lines such as 0845 are already abolished. So I cannot understand how WeQ4U could save you money if youcould just call the number like 0345 (the replacement of 0845)/ Calling 0345 does not cost you at all as well only that it will be taken from your monthly allowance??

Some people have limited monhtly allowance, so they could preserve their allowance using 0800 as it will not be taken from their monthly allowance.

Any info on this will be very much appreciated.

If you are trying to call an 01, 02 or 03 number using the weQ4U app then you need to understand how it works. The app calls an 03 number and their central system then dials out to the 01, 02 or 03 number belonging to the organisation you wanted to contact.

Their system then stays on the line while it is held in the distant queue. Your call to their system is dropped during that time, thereby preserving your allowance or saving you money. When the distant end answers the call, your phone re-dials the weQ4U 03 number and re-establishes the connection.

Your deduction from inclusive allowance, or paid-for call duration becomes just the time spent selecting menu options at the start of the call plus the duration of the actual conversation, thus lowering your bill from what it would have been.

The more well-known feature of the app is that if you try to dial an 084 or 087 number, the weQ4U central system looks in their database for an 01, 02, 03 or 080 number for their system to call and then dials it. You can ignore that part of the system. The call-queueing part of the system can work with all 01, 02, 03 and 080 numbers.

Be aware that you should avoid calling 080 numbers using the app as you will in fact be using your allowance or otherwise paying for a call to the weQ4U 03 number. Dialing the 080 number directly is free-to-caller. Call the 080 number and wait in the queue, if there is one. There will be no charge for the call.

I think that firms that are happy to provide a 0800 or 0808 freephone number probably make it well enough known somewhere on the website, so conversely if there isn't one to be found easily it probably means they don't have one.

If you sometimes come up against monthly bundle units, you might look into using another provider for some calls, possibly using VoIP.
  • The Saynoto0870 site is user driven, the data is only good if users add to it.

It is relevant as there are still a few 0844/0870 type numbers around. Plus those on limited minutes may find 0800 numbers listed to replace 01/02/03 numbers.
