Eon electricity meter replacement
Comments

I am concerned that any old employee can log in and have a look at the usage and thereby know if the house is empty.
Or their databases could be hacked. Same issue.
It's a burglary risk in my opinion and I am not prepared to put my home at risk.
I know of 5 houses in my road that are only occupied on an occasional basis. Anyone walking down the street could easily come to the same conclusion - smart meter or not.
Given the millions of homes on a supplier’s database, you stand more chance of being hit by car in the street than you do having your house burgled by someone looking at usage data. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. When you go ot leave all your appliances on turn heating on full blast, then EoN's burglary team won't know :rotfl:0 -
Hope you don't have Heating apps or 'smart lighting' thenI am concerned that any old employee can log in and have a look at the usage and thereby know if the house is empty.

I've heard some daft reasons for not having a meter and this one comes just a notch below the radiation problem - both stupid.
I'd be more worried about my bank account, computer or mobile phone being hacked than my gas or leccy meter.
As others have said it's much easier to wander down a road to see who's in or not rather than anticipating that someone at the energy supplier is capable of marshalling a squadron of burglars when you consumption drops to a low level.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Eon have told me my electricity meter has come to the end of it's life and needs replacing.
I told them I did not want a smart meter, and they confirmed they couldn't force me to.
My question, being a rather untrusting person, is how will I know if the meter installed is a smart one or not?
If it's analog I guess it's not smart, but if It's digital is it the case it can be either smart or not?
Any clues on how to tell?
Hello caper7 and already some great advice on here. Thanks all.
To confirm, smart meters are optional. You don't have to have one if you prefer not to.
As mentioned above, our smart meters come with an In Home Display (IHD) and are set up differently to classic/traditional meters. The installing technician will explain the set up so you'll be fully up to speed with the type of meter fitted.
Hope this explains.

Eon are ringing daily, bombarding me with mail and beating on my door to fit a Smart meter . I do not want one for various reasons .
I am now looking for another supplier that will use a conventional meter.
Sorry for the unwanted contact iltisman. As above, smart meters are optional. If you haven't already, let us know you don't want one and ask to be taken off the relevant marketing lists.
