Transport from New Jersey Cruise Port

I was not sure if it was better to post this question here - or on the New York Forum - please move if necessary, thank you.

If anyone has any experience of transport public (bus) or taxi from New Jersey Cruise Port to The Shopping Mall a Jersey Gardens, and the approximate fare/cost would you let me know, please?

I wonder if it it possible to get on a bus after leaving the ship and go directly to Jersey Gardens from there or if a taxi would be necessary - also is it easy to find a taxi at the Cruise Port without booking in advance? I could only see information about a bus from the Cruise Port into New York itself.

I believe that it is possible to get a bus from the Jersey Gardens Mall or a taxi to Newark Airport quite easily without booking in advance but could not see anything specifically from the Cruise Port to the Shopping Mall. If anyone can recommend any links it would be really helpful, thank you.

Also (I hope not a stupid question) but from an 'ordinary' UK mobile 'phone what numbers are actually dialed when in New Jersey - I found one taxi telephone number for Jersey Gardens Taxi - [FONT=&quot]'Call (908) 354-4444 - would I dial just the 354 4444 number or also include the 908: 9083544444? Any information or advice would be really appreciated, thank you.

I don't know about buses, but there are taxis just waiting there to take people wherever they need to go without booking. It's quite well organised, you might just have to queue for some minutes though.

That's good to know that getting a taxi would be convenient and easy, thank you.

Sign up for an Uber and Lyft account. Cheaper than using normal cabs and more polite drivers in my opinion. There are signup bonuses for both, with Uber use my code andyy9 when you sign up and you will get $15(£10) off your first ride.Use the same code for Lyft
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Yes thanks FBaby - it is the Cruise Port Cape Liberty, Bayonne, New Jersey. The flight home is from Newark Airport (EWR) and I believe Jersey Gardens Mall is fairly close to the airport - ? about seven miles or so.

The visit to Jersey Gardens is to avoid a whole day at Newark Airport on leaving the ship before our evening flight back home.

If you go with the taxis waiting outside, you might find that they will see if other passengers are going there too (very likely for the same reasons than yours), in which case, they will suggest a price for all.

That's what happened to us, four other people going to the same place and price divided between all which ended up more than reasonable.

Enjoy your cruise. Where are you going? Will you be taking a taxi there? Just to say that it is a bit in the middle of nowhere, so not accessible walking even from the closest train station. There were no taxi at the station, but again, found another couple who called a taxi and we all shared the fair.

That is very good to know, thanks FBaby - we'd be pleased to share a taxi if anyone else is going. On arrival we have two nights in New York and a Shuttle Bus is taking us from Newark Airport to the hotel. On the day of the cruise a 'Private Transfer' arranged by the Travel Agent, is taking us to the ship.

It is a Royal Caribbean (Southern) Cruise and we now understand that some of the ports may have to change because of the awful devastation from the hurricanes. We have been told that the ports (very understandably) are eager to open to cruise visitors as soon as possible as that is their livelihood.

The Travel Agent arranged another 'Private Transfer' from the ship to the airport at the end of the cruise. Because it would have meant spending all day at the airport we asked to cancel this transfer - and see about spending some time at the Mall at Jersey Gardens straight from the ship. We would take a taxi from Jersey Gardens in plenty of time to be at the airport before checking in.

Your reply is really helpful and much appreciated, thank you.

I see from the map that it's not all that far from the cruise terminal to the Staten Island ferry, which goes to Manhattan.

Perhaps the OP would care to comment on whether they're interested in that option instead of the mall, and other posters regarding whether it's feasible???

    Just an idea.

Thank you for your suggestion John259. We'll have our luggage with us and the reason we chose the Mall was because we'll be able to do any last minute shopping and have lunch there. Also - The Mall have 'Smart Carts' for hire and we'll be able to load our luggage on - although the luggage cannot be stored anywhere.

If necessary we can take it in turns to have the 'Smart Cart' and let the other go off and do a bit of shopping without it. It would be so much better than having all day at the airport. (We may even tire ourselves out and sleep better on the flight.) Thank you again, very much, for your suggestion.

I thought it might be! Yes, some ports have changed. When are you going?
