Well why WOULDN'T you report it unless you like your car with a broken wing mirror?

I’ll have to phone the police, get the insurance company involved. It’s a lot of hassle. Maybe easier just to fix and forget it.

I thought private CCTV could only cover your own property - for data protection reasons? (eg you cannot have CCTV covering a public road outside your house).

EDIT: Are you permitted to have CCTV coverage of a public street outside your house?

Lol I’m sure it will be fine.

If you are registered under the DPA it's fine as images recorded in public places from CCTV fall under the act

Start by finding the cost of a new or used replacement then choose whether to involve your insurers or the police.

    Basically this.

You can set it up to record public places like the street outside but, if you do, you should register as a data controller, pay the annual fee, and abide by the rules on data security, retention, and access by those recorded as any commercial CCTV operator is required to.

Just like not telling your insurer, the fact that lots or people don't do it doesn't make it technically ok ;)

Well why ask if it's worth reporting if you think it's too much hassle?

Depends on the model of car. Our VW Eos cost over 600 pound to sort out a broken door mirror
