hope some of you "chaps" can help me.
I need (honest!) a new notebook.
Main applications used are Excel, Access & PowerPoint.
I main priority is processing "power", I'm running very large complex spreadsheets on a regular basis.
My current Desktop:
Xeon 3.06GHz CPU, 1.00GB of RAM
I'm looking to achieve comparable performance but in a notebook.
A quick search lead me to the Toshiba P35-S629
My IT department are out of their depth (so am I!), Dell don't really come across as being that interested in helping
Any advice, pointers, directions??
Thanks in advance
Fingers Xed!

You could try http://www.alienware.com - these are heavy duty laptops, mainly aimed at gamers but should suit your needs. looks cool too.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

If you're going after Alienware, you might want to check this out first. They're not the only company that makes heavy-duty laptops, y'know!
You say your current desktop is Xeon-based. Is that one or two processors? If the latter, you'll probably find that an equivalent portable does not exist. Quite apart from the issue of space, a laptop with two Intel Xeon processors inside it would probably melt shortly after it was turned on!
That Toshiba you mentioned looks just the ticket, so long as you're content with a slower-than-average hard-disk drive, and half the RAM of your current system. Chances are you'll find something even better from amongst this lot. Since you're going to be mostly working on it, you might want to take a look at Alienware's Sentia too.0 -
