every time I come on this forum this thread is highlighted as if there's a new post and there isn't . so I'm making one to try to fix it.

It's because another person has voted. It always happens with threads that contain polls.

I'm not sure if you mean me or if I'm just herring things

BTW, I mostly don't do CTW, but when I do, I sometimes go for the 1000 entries in one comp, and sometimes I scroll through as many as I can entering. I only wish I had a clue which way was more likely to net a result. I spose there are many ways to go fishing for prizes.

Say you enter 1,000 competitions once and 2,000 other people do the same you have 1,000 chances to win any of the individual competitions with odds for each of the 1,000 competitions of about 2,000 to 1.

If you put 1,000 entries into one competition and 2,000 other people do the same your odds of winning the one competition are about 2,000,000 to 1,000 which is 2,000 to 1.

(Obviously the entry pattern is not that simple)

This logic behind this post was more in relation to the C2W's ... as in - I wonder what would be better, to concentrate on one or two prizes and enter just those competitions near-daily on every site, or spend what time you have and just enter as many of the ones you like as you can in your timeframe (unlikely to be all comps on all sites, although I'm sure some people do do that).

So, for me with the C2W's there'll always be someone that has more entries than me because I don't dedicate that much time to them and I don't do them every day ... but if I have, say an hour or two a day, should I just enter the "Win 350 Amazon vouchers" every day on as many sites as I can get through in that one or two hours or should I just go through the list starting at Absolute Radio and just enter whatever I like the look of it, and maybe only get 10 or so entries into the "Win 350 Amazon vouchers".

Horses for courses and all that but was just wondering what other people's logic would be

The most "profitable" entry is your first, after which the law of diminishing returns applies.

Mathematically, your nth entry increases your chance of winning by n/(n-1)
    eg.
Your 2nd entry increases your chances by 2/1 = 2 (It doubles your chance of winning).
Your 3rd entry increases your chances by 3/2=1.5 (your chance of winning increases by 50%)
Your 6th entry increases your chances by 6/5=1.2 (your chance of winning increases by 20%)
Your 21st entry increases your chances by 21/20=1.05 (a 5% increase)
Your 51st entry increases your chances by 51/50=1.02 (a 2% increase)
    Your 1001st entry increases your chances by 1001/1000 = 1.001 (a 0.1% increase)

So in relation to C2W comps, if you have time for one more entry, entering a comp where you have already entered multiple times makes very little difference to your chance of winning, but entering a comp where you have previously entered once doubles your chance of winning.
