I have had a look at a merchant agreement and the manner in which CPA's work is that when the card is authorised, with a special code number for that type of transaction, t then becomes a "trusted card", no CVV2 (as these cannot be stored), nor expiry date needs passed to have the transaction continue. However, if the card is lost or stolen and you are given a new number then technically any company processing one of these transactions with the wrong number can be issued with a chargeback were you will get the money returned to you (it is a glitch in the system that allows these ones to go through, and the banks are breaking their own agreement and so are the companies). So if you have one and you want it stopped and the company taking the money wont stop, you need to write to the company taking the money, give a copy of the letter to the bank, and ask the back for a new card with a new number, so you can claim the money back if they keep on taking it, which unfortunately can take up to 6 months.
  • Hi, just got my money back from the RAC yesterday, they've also assured me that no further continous payments will be taken from my account so thats a relief.

Thanks to everyone who posted for their advice!
