BT speed test

My BT broadband using their own speed tester, for which you need to be logged into your BT account, invariably registers 52 Mb/s for downloads, whereas using the recommended Broadband Choices Tester it regularly says the download speed is under 12MB/s. How would you interpret this?

I ran a speed test and only registered less than 1 Mbps.
I used BT chat service and they checked remotely and fixed a problem
Now up to 8 Mbps which I can now stream with
Very good service I thought with the chat thing. They also called back next day to see if the fix was still running.
