The first dual sim with dual 4G capability (and dual 4G Calling/Volte) has been launched by Huawei.

Ok, but that's probably an £800 phone? Some people will pay that much, I guess...

A new Moto G4 is now up and running (and looking a bit weird with black back and white front) and it appears - if you believe what it says in the status bar - to run both SIMs at 3G/4G at the same time with no problems, so it seems to do what I need for £150 shipped, which is Ok by me.

Rumours are it might be around £500 on Three. Still expensive but not extortionate.

You are correct, the Moto G4 does allow 3G/4G and 3G at the same time, unfortunately it’s a feature missing from the G5 which is only 2G on the second sim again.

    - if purchased from a UK supplier. Is it possible that the Huawei Mate 10 Pro marketed in UK will have the same limitation..?

No reason to expect so, there is only one ‘world’ model as far as I know, and they made a fuss about the feature at the phone’s launch.

Some months ago, I bought an UMI Diamond dual SIM phone from amazon.co.uk, supplied ex-UK.

It seems both slots work with 3G/4G. I was expecting slot 2 to be 2G only, so was pleased when 4G coverage clicked in. (Three SIM) It has been working perfectly using both SIMs.

My UMI Diamond cost £89.99 and is now £85.99.

Thanks - too late for me, but it would have suited me better than the Moto G4, as a 5" phone fits my hand and my pockets better than a 5.5".

The UMI Diamond gets pretty mixed reviews - but then again, so does the Moto G5 - one of the reasons (along with the poor dual-SIM implementation) why I didn't buy one. For the money it's a good spec, as long as it's reliable.

The other main downside of no-name makers (sorry, UMI) is that you may not get any s/w updates once they have your money - which is a shame, as Android 7 seems to have better power saving features (advanced Doze mode?) which would help with the alleged battery life issues.

The Moto G4 is quite an old phone now, but credit to Lenovo that they have bothered to release Android 7 for it.

Dual 4G means both sims can be on a 4G signal at the same time.

    Your own link says otherwise:
Both SIM slots are compatible with 4G, respectively.
When they work at the same time, only one of them can receive LTE service and the other GSM. Default at slot 1

I'll watch out for this. Will it make much/any difference in practice? FWIW both work in the UK, normally using O2 (SIM 1) and Three (SIM 2). It's when I'm travelling that I'll find out - Europe, USA, South Africa.

BTW I wasn't disagreeing with you, just adding my experience.

When you are using SIM 1 (O2) for mobile data, do you have any signal on SIM 2 (Three) for calls/texts?
