Brexit, the economy and house prices part 5

Chronic underbuilding is a real problem that's independent of Brexit.
Galileo is expected to cost £10bn split across the EU. Estimates for ours are £5bn with no cost sharing. If Galileo was the only thing we could share costs on I'd agree with you, but it's one of dozens of projects we'll pay more to have.
Given that our EU contributions were largely just covering our share, it's unlikely leaving the EU will save us any money.
There isn't going to be a British GPS system, the idea is laughable. We have two aircraft carriers with barely any planes, one of which will never sail. The NHS can't recruit doctors and schools are in a funding crisis under the Tories.
For what reason does the UK need it's own positioning system? To sail the carriers that can't sail anywhere without an American carrier group to support them? To fire the American cruise missiles we buy from the Americans and can't fire without the Americans?
Maybe it's fire our nukes at Russia, the ones we lease from the Americans and can't fire without the Americans.0 -
Another day, another set of poor economic data.Subdued industrial output data caps glum first-quarter for economyThe ONS also released figures for construction output, which fell 2.3 percent on the month in March, after a fall of 1.0 percent in FebruarySeparate ONS data showed Britain’s goods trade deficit with the rest of the world increased to 12.287 billion pounds in March from 10.414 billion pounds in February
And while our economy grinds to a halt, the Cabinet is bickering over which fantasy customs union model they want rejected by the EU.
Oh dear, oh dear...Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

Bad news for Brexit - the Tory shires are turning red:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/may/09/tories-southern-red-south-england-londonWe know that those who left London in recent years are disproportionately in the earlier stages of their working lives. More than four in 10 (42%) are between the ages of 25 and 44, with nearly a quarter (23%) in their 30s. Data from our polling indicates that 44% of these ex-Londoners have a degree, compared with just 27% of the general population.
In the local elections last week, the Conservatives lost control of Mole Valley, Plymouth, Kingston-upon-Thames, and South Cambridgeshire, while also losing vote share in wards across the region. So at the same time as the development of significant migration patterns, the political makeup of the south has changed.0 -

Yeah it's never going to happen but they are currently seeking proposals to do it. I doubt they'll go ahead and worst case is we'll have no involvement in building the EU system (so no say in it, no work happening in the UK for it) but will get to pay some annual fee to use it. We'll probably follow a similar model for a few different EU organizations we used to be involved in, too.0 -

It's all the expertise that will be lost too as yet another cutting edge project goes to fruition on our doorstep that we have no involvement in. This is how the UK begins to slide into irrelevance.
Well as long as Brexiteers can sit in their gardens growing British turnips for British people then that's all that matters.0 -
Bad news for shoppers:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-food-price-rise-theresa-may-eu-trade-deal-lords-grocery-customs-barriers-tariffs-a8344351.htmlIt is !!!8220;inconceivable!!!8221; that there will be no impact on EU produce, which makes up 30 per cent of the UK's food imports, an inquiry by a House of Lords committee found.
Even in the UK!!!8217;s !!!8220;best case scenario!!!8221; !!!8211; of no tariffs and few customs barriers !!!8211;international rules would require more borders checks, clogging up British ports, it warned.
Hmm, who eats these soon to be more expensive potato chips...?0 -

Liberal minded Middle class flight from London has been a thing for a number of years, Brexit and the poor performance of the Libdems is probably skewing the picture somewhat at the moment, but I don!!!8217;t sense the seismic shift that the Guardian are suggesting.
Bristol and Exeter are full of these types.....
