I'm struggling to understand why you keep doing this. Every time there is bad news, you post a link. Every time there is good news, you stay silent. Quite often, a story is mainly good news and you pick out the one bad bit in it and quote that.

You must think we are a bit thick; it's certainly not having the effect you seem to be hoping for.

I imagine it may be a response to certain other posters who do exactly the opposite....

Car manufacturing in UK falls for fifth successive month

Both production for domestic market and exports falling...

Yes, and from Autocar comes some interesting statistics.
The impact of Britain’s slowing industry was reflected in European registration numbers, which fell by 2.2% to 1,461,683 vehicles. The UK was among the worst hit, with registrations down by 9.3%, although Ireland, Denmark and Latvia saw even bigger falls, albeit as considerably smaller markets. More significant was Germany, Europe’s biggest market ahead of the UK, where registrations were down by 3.3%.

Since September last year, the UK has produced 1,694,663 vehicles, but even as recently as 2015 that number was closer to 1.5 million.

Davis is either really bad at wording, or knows a lot less about Europe than he claims, since in a speach earlier he referened to the Government of Czechoslavia, which hasn't existed since 1993:

Germany, Austria, Holland and Czechoslovakia are all without governments at the moment so this is not top of their tree.

He's getting slated about Holland as well, but I'm not sure how much that's justified. It's another out of date term though.

Does anyone actually think this guy knows what he's talking about, and trust him to get us through this mess?

I think it's part of this cunning plan to look as nincompoopish as possible in order to lull the EU into a false sense of security.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Let's be honest a lot of people on here don't know what they are talking about. Yet no one feels the need to slate them by being nit picker.

Got to be honest, I have differering standards for MSE posters and the "Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union".

The arrival of the world’s largest ferry on a Dublin to continental Europe route has sparked post Brexit fears over trade at Holyhead port.

Wouldn't happen to be anything to do with Stena Line who operate the port. Stena Line are themselves privately Swedish owned........

I was going to say exactly that. If there's anyone who should be able to at least pretend to know what they are talking about here, it's David Davis.

If I had his job I'd certainly be holding myself to higher standards than my current role of "Internet man trying to figure out what the hell is going on". If I showed his level of competence in my day job then I'd be "Unemployed internet man".

This is basic, basic stuff. Czech Republic had an election where they are still trying to form a government. Slovak Republic didn't, and (as I understand it) has a government. So it's not that he's referring to them as a group (like the V4) to save time. It sounds more like he doesn't realize they aren't the same thing any more.
It also indicates that either no-one has proof read his speech (bad idea at that level) or his proof reader isn't that clued up on European politics either.

Ireland would be mad if they weren't investigating this further, they don't want to be dependant on a dominant trading partner with whom trading relations are now a lot more unpredictable, especially as a lot of that trade will just be going through the UK on the way to and from the rest of the EU

This article gives much more technical details.

    Interesting link - thanks.

Irish food and drink exports (those most likely to be perishable) make up about 10% of her total exports so sea routing is possible for the vast majority of Irish export trade.

I see from the link that they can fit nearly 600 trailers on this new vessel. Not good news for anyone currently making a living by facilitating this traffic (Holyhead port, truck stops, foreign HGV levy etc.)

Good news for anyone who will be glad to see each sailing remove 600 return truck journeys from UK roads.

    More technical details here.

An interesting point to think about. Many of the return journeys probably carry imports to Britain. That return full load against a possible empty truck has cost implications which I have difficulty to imagine
