Of course, they will argue until the cows come home that really they are patriotic and really they want what is best for this country.
There's one big problem with that though.
See the below in red.On the radio this morning Duncan-Smith was just spouting forth exactly the same cliched lines. The problem is people's pride doesn't allow them to admit they are wrong.....so they google for some obscure reference that supports their line. We all know the way this is going however. When you even have arch brexiteers like Fox saying 'get ready to be disappointed'....it's clear!
But no, to these people Brexiters are wrong - against the vast majority of evidence so far.
Even when it is suggested that the EU want to punish the UK they refuse to see this.
Well except for one, maybe. The 27 are making sure this won't happen again by making an example of us. Thank you brexiteers.
Certainly such coercive actions will "persuade" the likes of Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, even Italy etc. to "toe the line", won't they?
As for what is currently supposedly happening (since as we all know, it ain't over 'till the proverbial fat lady sings) I politely suggest that they consider what was said by David Davis yesterday.
Until the deal is both agreed and signed the UK could just walk away.
Just saying.
Nobody seriously expects such adamant remainers to roll over and just accept Brexit in all eventualities, I'm sure. Just as no Brexiter would.
There isn't really much in the way of genuine pro-remain debate though from so many remainer contributors here other than what very much appears to be infantile foot-stamping.
To be fair the media are as bad, as the suspicious "find" or "leak" which the Beeb and other UK media are all over in a frenzy despite absolutely none of it being confirmed.
Anywhere.
That without even considering the accuracy (or rather, the inaccuracy) of governmental Brexit forecasts so far.0 -

Such people obviously don't accept that our country is growing; seeing increased jobs and wages; seeing increased exporting and increased manufacturing; etc. etc. etc.

No, it looks much more like the EU showing their true colours.

We are still in Europe and have been for over 40 years.
The global economy is growing so it would take someachievement to manage not to benefit from that when we are part of one of its biggest trading blocs.
Although, we are growing more slowly than the rest of the EU which augurs badly for the UK:
https://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2018/jan/30/eurozone-gdp-france-growth-recovery-market-business-liveEurozone GDP: Europe outpaces UK with strongest growth in a decade - business live
I'm not sure what the foot stamping you refer to is about. I'm not interested in Little Englander jingoism so I don't think we are ever going to see eye to misty eye as we gaze longingly at Her Majesty's lost dominions of Empire and wave little plastic flags (made in China) together.
I'm not especially bothered if that's what you want to do, until it starts making me poorer with fewer opportunities, which is what a hard Brexit would lead to.0 -
Next time you're having to endure a conversation with a Quitter, ease the tedium by playing Brexit Bingo.
Sums up nationalism quite well. All those statements imply a personal inferiority complex projected on to an imagined sesnse of national victimhood.
What would actually help Brexiteers is taking responsibility for their own lives and to stop blaming everything on the Germans.0 -
When it came up. Are you deliberately trying to be obtuse? I don't have any examples of us using our veto because we agree with almost all of the decisions of the eu parliament.
or, alternatively, the EU parliament doesn't waste its time on legislation that, after some preliminary work, they know will be vetoed0 -

Naive in the extreme. It's childish jingoism to accuse the EU of wanting to punish us They are simply telling us what the consequences are of leaving the EU. It's embarrassing and was totally foreseeable. You wouldn't accuse a mother who advises her child not to put his hand in the fire as indulging in 'childish foot stamping'. We know that we are going to be poorer as a result of this decision....the only real question is how much poorer!0 -
Merkel and a room full of journalists laugh at May's handling of the Brexit negotiations:

You realise that you are in effect saying this about yourself since it is you that I quote as saying the EU are "punishing" us?
I suppose it suits you.

The EU are a single entity; as one. All with a single purpose. According to Eurocrats trying to present a united front, anyway.
Err, nope!Finance ministry officials from 11 European Union countries have backed non-member Switzerland in a dispute with Brussels over Swiss stock exchange access to the single market ....The letter to the European Commission from the 11 -- including Germany, Austria and Britain -- said Switzerland was treated unfairly last month when its exchanges got only one year of market access.0
