Well done on overtime - every penny helps. I applaud anyone who does overtime in the winter! I can't bare to be at work in the dark so well done.
Congratulations on a superb savings target for December. :T:T:T:T:T
My foot still hurts however is a lot better now and definitely not as blue!
Overtime is the only way i can save such large amounts of money. Its a love hate relationship :mad:0 -
No updates in terms of savings at the moment. Im being paid on friday and counting down the minutes as i have literally no money. I feel this way of living is actually helping future me as im being so completely frugal i feel that when i do have money ill already be in the habit of not wanting to spend little amounts which of course will be better.
I found out yesterday that the money ive put away with C was actually a joint account held with his sister which made me feel weird. Its not a lot of money, about 1250.00 however im not sure i like knowing people can see what im doing with my funds. Its not like either of them would ever do anything with it and C didnt realise but i just dont really like knowing people can see me putting money in and out.
Im keeping that as emergency fund and will probably still continue to save small amounts in there however im going to start my mortgage deposit in a separate account in my name. I still want to follow my plan of putting away money into fixed accounts when i have it but for now i actually like that i have an emergency fund.0 -
Why would an adult man have a joint account with his sister?...0

I am with Blue Mango on this, If you are putting money away with C it needs to be in a joint account with both of your names.
Please don't be upset by this. We are genuinely offering advice. I am in my forties and know too many of my friends that ended up losing money at some time because they didn't speak out when something didn't feel right with their partner. One of my friends lost the money from her flat when he bought at house with the money from it and she trusted him. She didn't trust him 20 years later as she didn't receive a penny when he sold the house. She had a breakdown and we were all so upset for her.
I hope you are ok.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Blue mango, I work within retail banking and it’s surprisingly common for family to have joint accounts, especially for things like inheritance or proceeds of deceased family members assets where it’s not stating in wills who is getting what or if theres equal share for multiple signaturies that’s not necessarily specified. It’s not weird, shocking or uncommon.
I know a lot of people also buy property with siblings, they all have joint accounts and it’s something I will do myself with my sister if for any reason C and myself ever were to part ways.0 -
SavingsWannabe I appreciate and completely understand your concerns. You are definitely right and I completely agree with you. However I already have complete access to C’s accounts and theres reasons why I don’t want joint accounts at the moment.
The money I have held with C at the moment is only a small amount and it now either won’t increase or I will take it out to put into fixed rates later on in the new year. C has a substantial amount more then myself and also earns over double what I’ve put away every month as well as given the length of time we’ve been together I feel there is little risk.
Besides if he really wanted or needed that money he could have it. I’ve lived with him bill free and he has done/paid so much for me. Although he is now doing the same with me I know I will end up living with him again without having to pay a penny because he won’t let me and by that time I would have owed him that anyway.0 -
Good you know what you are doing if you work in banking. I am glad you are feeling comfortable. It sounds like you know what you are doing.
Hey it's nearly the weekend. Hooooray. It is sooo dark outside. Roll on Friday.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -

Makes sense... Never thought of this as me and my siblings never had a reason to get a joint account.0 -
So I haven't had a great time saving as of late and ive also had to take funds out of savings aswell which also doesn't feel too good. Im at £1150.00 at the moment and I have another £750.00 to put in this weekend.
I feel like its hard to keep up motivation when all I want to do is buy a house and knowing I wouldn't be able to borrow anything without a stupid amount of a deposit. I just have to keep chugging along and hope I don't get bored of saving all the time. Im such an impulse shopper and I always make excuses for things I can buy with that money which is one of my biggest downfalls and hurdles.
Shock horror, my partner still has all my savings! After the backlash, I tried to save last months money in my own accounts. And failed miserably spending it all, so absolutely no savings made and feeling very down about it. Im transferring the 750.00 to him as soon as it enters my account because clearly im terrible with money. Brilliant.
On the plus side I got a new job with a 3k pay rise and much better hours. Absolutely praying that overtime will be available as with the pay increase double pay overtime will be a dream. Im hoping if I were to be able to do two extra shifts a month I would be clearing a very large (well, large to me) income that might let me enjoy my money a bit more and save lots every month.
Not even about the money, I hate my job so much currently and I cannot wait to move on. I start in the new year which hopefully is a sign that everything is on the up.
Now I just need to move into this flat that's taking ages to clear....0 -
It's perfectly normal to feel down sometimes but the fact that you are still saving is great. I still spend money and kick myself later. You are not alone. £750 savings is great and is not to be sneezed at.:money:
If you feel comfortable saving with your partner that's ok and keep it there or shift your savings into a fixed account where you cannot withdraw without notice.
The new job is wonderful news.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220
