Despite the great 4% cashback I'm getting with Capital One atm, I have to say, I really don't enjoy using them!!

Credit to Morgan Stanley here. I have to say, MS win hands down when it comes to their online service.

Whenever I make a credit card purchase (be it over the web or in a high street store), the available credit on my card is immediately reduced by the purchase amount - according to the website at least. I don't think I've seen this with any other card company before.

I totally agree Eagle. I also have MS and their website is brilliant. Everything is user friendly and up-to-date. And when it comes to paying my bill, it tells me the date I have to SUBMIT payment by (as well as the payment deadline), and I can just submit my payment through them. And once I have paid it shows up as being paid and says Thank You!

With Capital One on the other hand I always feel a bit unsure about the whole online experience. So then I call them instead and their customer services team just don't seem to have a clue about the most basic of questions. Still, I'll be grateful for the good level of cashback in January

My A&L (MBNA) does this for most transactions. Some do not though, notably Boots.

Actually I know that Halifax credit cards do and also HSBC owned brands like Beneficial and Marbles - available balance changes immediately.

As regard Capital One and payment dates - there is a certain vagueness here with the date for the direct debit being about 2 days later than given on the statement (not our problem if they take responsibility for collection) and being earlier than actual 'due date'. So if making a manual payment what final date would you go by?
