Stationery set for 7 year old

I wanted to get my eldest a 'grown up/proper' stationery set for her 7th birthday. She has a few bits and pieces (Pens, pencils, ruler etc) but now she has quite a lot of homework etc I thought it would be good to get a case or set of stationery for her to use.

However having had a look around everything I've found is overpriced in my humble opinion so I thought I might try and make my own up (have a Wilkos nearby so can get a fair bit there). So I was wondering what would be good to include? So far I'm thinking pens (not sure what would be the best type), pencils - graphite and coloured, highlighters, ruler, erasers, sharpener, but wonder what else to include.

Also, more importantly, I don't know where to look for a proper case to store it all in. She has a pencil case which is fine for more everyday bits but if like to get something to store everything so she can get that out when needed. I quite like the sturdy wooden cases you can get but not sure what alternatives there are if you only want a case not the contents!

Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

Hobby boxes or drawers might be useful. Look online for crafting boxes and drawers ( huge range of clear or coloured boxes with drawers or compartments in clear or coloured plastic in various sizes.) Or traditional needlwork boxes that have internal compartments.

Or you could Blue Peter it and you and your daughter could cover takeaway/margarine tubs/ fruit punnets in pretty paper, then store them on a special shelf or drawer.

My daughter has asked for a Smiggle pencil case for her birthday. Not sure why they are the in thing, but I am getting her one which costs £12 (yes which I also think sounds like a lot for a pencil case - not even sure if it comes with anything inside).

Have a look on ebay, it is great for things like that! Cheap but good quality as well. Make sure you read the reviews before you purchase though.

Smiggle is brilliant for that sge group. My daughter got some bits for her birthday and was delighted with them!

Thanks for all the replies. In the end I went to Wilkos and stocked up on loads of bits (and went a bit over budget ) Inc erasers, pens, pencils, rulers, exercise books, colouring materials etc as well as some 'fun' items (scented pencils etc) so I'm happy with what I got.

I also found a set of 3 pretty patterned boxes to put the stuff in but unfortunately had to buy a plain storage box for all the felt pens! Was also a bit annoyed as found the same type boxes in The Works a few days later at a much cheaper price!! I also thought the cases i ordered online were leather but it turns out they are only a strong cardboard. I think they'll be ok but daughter will have to take care of them so they last. But hey ho I am pleased with the end result and think she will be too.
