I was also declined by santander because of lack of credit history.
why do they all have to do a credit check if i just want to save money and get some interest.

Regardless of perfect credit history, bankruptcies, CCJs, etc - banks have the right to refuse potential customers. They don’t even need to give you a reason for it. Complaints won’t get you anywhere as they are well within their rights.

Technically Santander 123 is a current account not a savings account so there is a possibility of going overdrawn on it. This is why they check your credit record. You may have better luck with just a straightforward savings account.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
