I was also declined by santander because of lack of credit history.
why do they all have to do a credit check if i just want to save money and get some interest.

OP...Complain, get a final response and then escalate to the FCA.

Then maybe you'll get some compo out of it - right? :rotfl:
  • Regardless of perfect credit history, bankruptcies, CCJs, etc - banks have the right to refuse potential customers. They don’t even need to give you a reason for it. Complaints won’t get you anywhere as they are well within their rights.

Why not ? At the very least, Santander will have to pay the FCA (if I remember correctly)
    £800-00) for the complaint:D !

    HTHs.

No, it doesn't help at all.
  • Technically Santander 123 is a current account not a savings account so there is a possibility of going overdrawn on it. This is why they check your credit record. You may have better luck with just a straightforward savings account.
