Phone locked or unlocked?
I have just taken a sim only contract for 12 months with o2 which I am happy with. I intended to buy the phone from them also I want a phone which is unlocked and they were showing a pay as you go for the Motorola G. I told the person I spoke to that I wanted to have an unlocked phone. She said I could buy the phone unlocked but as soon as I put the sim card in the phone would be locked to o2. I was unsure of this so decided to seek an opinion here.
o2 are selling the phone in blue only at £129. I can buy the phone unlocked from John Lewis or Carphone Warehouse at £149 in either grey or gold. I would prefer the phone in Grey but uncertain which retailer I should purchase it from. Is it correct that when I put the o2 sim in the phone it will then become locked to o2. Had I taken a 30 day sim the cost would have been higher. I have always been with o2 and am happy to stay with them.
Advice would be appreciated. Thank you Sue.

John Lewis are now showing the phone for £169 95 although they were selling it for £149 95 I have filled in a price match form and no doubt will hear from them in the next 24 hrs
They have a 2 year guarantee and I have purchased TV You View box from JL price matched with Richer Sounds. I know from experience that they are a good company to deal with Many thanks Sue0
