Maybe I'm missing something, but, why doesn't Ryanair hire some of the, now jobless, Monarch pilots, so they don't have to cancel any more of their flights?

I read somewhere that it's probably not that simple.
Ryanair operate 737s planes, Monarch's fleet is (was) different planes (with the exception of one 737 if I've got it right).0 -
Given that a lot of Ryanair pilots have left because of the way they were treated, I doubt the "glorified bus drivers" would want to work for them, would they?0

Monarch fly Airbus, Ryanair fly Boeing. Monarch pilots would have to retrain. I doubt very much Ryanair would be wanting to pay for it!.
EZY are hiring pilots and VS have set up a fast track path to support both Monarch pilots and cabin crew.0 -

Exactly that plus pay and conditions very likely inferior at Ryanair.0 -

My neighbour is/was a pilot for Monarch. I can't see him beating a path to Ryanair's door until he has completely run out of other options.0

hen he wouldn't be unemployed.
if there is nothing else but unemployment what does he do?
maybe you're unaware but unemployment is extremely unlikely for qualified and experienced aircrew right now. There is, if anything, a shortage which if travel trade forecasts are correct will only get more acute over the coming few years. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
