Bank Charge - Good will gesture

Hi I received two letters this morning concerned an account with Natwest and one with Halifax. I have received a £35 charge from Natwest as I used my debit card when I had insufficient funds and I do not have an authorised overdraft. I rang this morning and as I have already had a goodwill gesture in the pass (on a diff acct with them) they will not refund my charge. Halifax have charged me £39 due to an unpaid cheque, they too will not refund me due to a previous goodwill gesture in the past.
Is there any way I can around these charges??
