I imagine Stinky will be delighted with kongs and lick mats aplenty. WattyDog adores the old lady opposite who feeds him treats and plays with him quietly. (Is there anyone local to your mum who could help with the dressing?)Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!1 -
I'm going to supply my mum with lots of food-based options and we'll deal with the weight gain when I'm back! I have treat balls as well (last about 2 seconds) but she won't be able to open/close them. I'm hoping her neighbours will be able to help with dressings - and walking if he's Ok to go out by then. It's tying on the plastic bag that may be a problem. And having to be with him almost constantly so he doesn't take the dressing off now he's worked it out! It'll be very boring for both of them...
Hopefully someone at the vet will have some suggestions.
I hope we can get outside for a bit today as I need to take down security cameras, change batteries, and put them back up. Plus do some gardening. And sort out keys for cat sitting.
I have a feeling I won't be able to do book group on Wednesday evening either unless he's bandage-free. I'd hoped the dressing would be off from today and he'd just be confined to the garden. Although zoomies in the garden aren't a great idea either, so it may be that next step is on his lead in the garden.1 -
Poor Stinky, and what a time for him to have done it too. I'm inclined to agree with you about the dog walker too - if she's managing to not notice things like that, I don't think I'd want her in charge of any dog I might have either!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Vet nurse said Stinky's paw was healing well - bit of bleeding but nothing major and air would do it good. Suggested a sock and tape... not successful. Sock and tape won't stay on, and I think the sock was adhering to the wound and making the bleeding worse. So that's been taken off. However, outside boots (while not popular with the patient) meant a short walk and pottering outside while I planted up two more pots and shoved narcissi into to a few other pots.
Sock has been removed from the very miserable doggy, and we've got the doughnut out to discourage licking. He's actually curled up asleep at the moment and leaving it alone. Neighbour who is looking after the cats has been over to get instructions from Fatty, and dropped back with some first aid bits in case Stinky needs a dressing after all. I need to restock my first aid kit and am cross that it'll have to be via Amazon as I need a roll of cotton wool amongst other things, and I also need it all ASAP. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Stinky will be pretty much healed by Thursday, and a few quiet days with my mum will sort him out. I'm hoping for a couple of quiet days on Saturday and Sunday once I'm out of hospital and before I get home as I'm exhausted.
In other news, it looks like the bedroom window is no longer leaking, so keeping my fingers crossed that I'm right.
Think it's time to light the fire - I hope to shift some stuff from the garage to the greenhouse/shed tomorrow, and maybe shift some logs down to the log store. But most importantly pack for both Stinky and myself ready for Thursday so it's not too much of a rush.3 -
The wound on Stinky’s paw has reopened so back to the vet again. And the front bedroom window is still leaking. Neither of these are things I really need when I’m trying to get ready to go away for a few days. And I can’t change my hospital appointment as I’m at the limit of the time I can leave between treatments. I also need to work today and tomorrow as well as packing for both myself and the dog.2

Stinky saw his favourite vet, who says he's a good boy and it's healing nicely. So one less thing to worry about. No dressing inside, boots outside (he's not a fan of his boots and claims he can't walk in them... until something interesting happens like being at the vet...).
So I now need to concentrate on getting through work and getting ready for hospital. I've sent messages about the window and put towels on the sill... not much more I can do really.3 -
Oh good news about Stinky not needing a dressing anymore. I was just about to suggest a makeshift item like this to put over the top and stop him chewing it. Saw it on a Facebook page a while ago and only just thought about it again. The one I saw on Facebook had used some super thick tights 🤣

Thanks Jessy.
Stinky's paw is taking time to heal - he had to stay with my mum for a few days while I dealt with my hospital visit, and she struggled a bit with the wellies (and his need for zoomies to compensate for lack of exercise), so there's still a bit of a raw patch and some bleeding, but it's generally OK. Just annoying that he has to keep wearing boots outside and needs it keeping clean and dry.
I've been to the hospital - procedure went OK, but there were other issues that mean paperwork to follow up on what could have been a much more serious error. I need my brain back fully functioning to be able to deal with it. I do at least (thanks to the friend who collected me) have evidence so they can't claim I don't know what I'm talking about as it was post-anaesthetic. The ball has already been started rolling by the nursing staff anyway.
Still very tired, but have FINALLY washed my hair, so am having a rest.
I ended up driving to friends (about 2.5 hours away), having lunch with them and then getting a train down and staying in a hotel near the hospital. Crack of dawn taxi. Was told I was last on the list, but went in first, so was ready for collection while my friend was still driving down to get me - and to complicate matters, one of her overseas relatives had a medical emergency the overnight. So was picked up, we found out about the error and got all the details, then drove back alternating calls with carers/hospitals for her relative with calls from the hospital on my end...
Lovely weekend doing not much but probably not resting as much as I should. Was forced to shower (with the door unlocked!) on Saturday which did help (you're not supposed to shower for 48 hours), and also had a haircut, as her hairdresser comes to her house. Last cut was about 18 months ago, so definitely needed.
Headed home yesterday morning, and about an hour in my tyre pressure light came on just before a petrol station slip road. So decided not to ignore it and pulled in - checked all tyres and noticed that the one that was down has perishing on the side wall that even I could identify (I vaguely knew the rear tyres were on their last legs), so called the tyre place to order new tyres for replacement today. Then drove home hoping it would last...
Cats were both pleased to see me and VERY cross with me. My mum brought Stinky back, who had clearly had a lovely time and has really bonded with my mum, so it was clearly a good thing for him to spend the time with her. As it was late she decided to stay, so I had a nice long bath, then fell asleep on the sofa with a cat while staying up for Stinky's last trip outside.
Today has been a short walk and a hair wash (first one since Thursday), so I'm now having a rest before heading off to get the tyres done, drop off soft plastic, and do a small supermarket shop to claim vouchers.
Hospital paperwork needs to be high up the list, but I also need to get my brother added to my car insurance and make sure I have all presents/cards sorted out. I'd like to get the last of the daffodil bulbs planted this week, and more stuff done in the garden, but that's for later in the week. A bit of pottering today/tomorrow to get stuff put away and work out where pictures should go is probably realistic. For a start it's raining ... not that Stinky cares.2 -
Glad to hear that things in relation to the procedure went OK, but not so good that there were other issues that now ned sorting.
Take it easy though, I'm sure you're still meant to be, and a walk, hairwash, tyre replacement trip and shopping sounds like more than enough for one day!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
